Hybridization Among the Selected Breeding Lines of White Jute.

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

With a view to create genetic variability having desired traits like early sown, short maturity, high yield, adoption to different agro-ecological condition, tolerance to diseases and insect etc. a hybridization program was undertaken comprising six diverse parents. The parental materials used in the hybridization program were as follow C-3069, C-3473, C-3466, C- 3070, C-3468 and D-154. Crosses were made among the parents. But, unfortunately we did not get any hybrid seeds from those crosses.

Objectives:

1. Hybridization helps to create recombinant by accumulating desirable genes for both qualitative and quantitative characters from diverse parents.

2.To combine the desirable characters and to select superior progeny for varietal improvement program.

3. For creating variability and to combine the desirable traits in a parent.

Methodology:

Five genotypes including nµ cultivated varieties of deshi jute namely C-3069, C-3070, C-3466, C-3468, C-3473 and D-154 were grown in the green house premises on August 2013. Twice sowing with the same materials were grown after 15 days interval to ensure synchronization of flowering. The pods were maintained and seeds were collected separately.

Achievement/Findings:

We did not get any hybrid seeds from those crosses. So, this program will be done again in 2014 for achieving desired goal.
