Selection of Indigenous and Exotic Germplasm of White Jute for Short Day and Low Temperature Tolerance

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In order to isolate short day and low temperature tolerant lines coupled with disease tolerance either as donor parent or direct introduction. Fifty accessions including indigenous and exotic germplasm and a check variety CC-45 were grown at Manikganj in 2013. Out of fifty accessions twelve accessions (Acc.4700, Acc.4683, Acc.1784, Acc.2673, Acc.1780, Acc.4615, Acc.4619, Acc.2147, Acc.4706, Acc.3337, Acc.2139 and Acc.3917) were selected based on growth habit.

Objectives:

1.To isolate short day and low temperature lines coupled with disease tolerance either as donor parent or direct introduction.

2.To identify short day and low temperature tolerant lines.

Methodology:

To isolate short day and low temperature lines coupled with disease tolerance either as donor parent or direct introduction. 50 indigenous and exotic germ plasm were taken from Gene Bank, BJRI. The seed of these 50 germ plasm and variety CC-45 used as control were grown at Manikganj on 1^st March, 2013. Each treatment were sown in 3m long rows with two lines and spaced 30 cm between rows. Intercultural operations were done in time for uniform growth. Data were recorded on date of sowing, germination and harvesting, first and average flowering, disease infestation record, growth performance and other important observation
