Evaluation of Varieties of Deshi Jute

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Each variety was grown in a 5 decimal plot. Standard agronomic practices were followed for uniform growth and development of the materials. All off-type plants were rogued out regularly to maintain the varietal purity. Seeds of each variety were collected separately and preserved with proper care and attention.

Objectives:

1.To prevent deteriorated for their varietal distinctness and uniformity with the age of cultivation due to lack of proper maintenance.

2.Their purity for genetically characteristics and potentialities will be maintained properly based on individual plant selection.

3.The objectives of the experiment is to maintain.genetic composition of the varieties.

Methodology:

Eight varieties of white jute namely, CVL-1, CVE-3, CC-45, D-154, BJRI Deshi Pat-5 , BJRI Deshi Pat-6, BJRI Deshi Pat-7 and BJRI Deshi Pat-8 were grown at Manikganj to maintain the seed purity for nucleus seed production. Each variety was grown in a 5 decimal plot. Standard agronomic practices were followed for uniform growth and development of the materials. All off-type plants were rogued out regularly to maintain the varietal purity. Disease and insect infested plants were removed. Seeds of each variety were collected separately and preserved with proper care and attention.
