Effect of various corm sizes on growth and flower production of gladiolus were studied at BAU, Mymensingh during 2007 to April 2008 with a replicated field trial. Three corm sizes viz. large (dai 4.7 cm and wt. 26 g), medium (dia. 3.6 cm & wt. 16g) and small (dia. 2.9 cm & wt. 9 g) were used in the study. The study revealed that corm sizes showed significance effect on different growth parameters and flower production of gladiolus. Larger corn size increased the number tiller per hill, total number of spike initiation, spike length, rachis length, number of florets per spike, plant height and plant height at harvest and number of leaves per plant. It decreased the time required to 80% emergence, spike initiation, time to completing 80% spike initiation and 80% spike harvest and self life. Large corm size was found most effective planting materials for commercial cultivation of gladiolus.

  1. To study the growth, flowering and yield performance of gladiolus using different sizes of corm as planting materials.

The study was conducted at Horticultural Farm, BAU, Mymensingh during November 2007 to April 2008. The experiment was conducted in RCBD with 3 replications. There were three treatments viz. T1= large (dia. 4.7 cm and wt. 26 g),   T2   = medium (dia. 3.6 cm & wt. 16g) and T3   small (dia. 2.9 cm & wt. 9 g) with 3 replications in the experiment. Each treatment containing 28 plants were randomly distribution to the unit plot. Raw data for each of the treatment were complied and analyzed by MSTAT program to find out various treatments effects and the mean separation was done by LSD test.
