An experiment with 18 genotypes of ginger was conducted in the experimental field of Department of Genetics and Pl ant Breeding, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur during the period from April 2005 to March 2006 for screening the genotypes against the Stilt­ legged rhizome fly.  Mimegralla  coeruleiji-ons  (Diptera:  Micropezidac). The result. of the experiment indicated that the gmger shoot infestation and the ginger rhizome infestation due to rhizome fly were significantly lowest in genotype Ginger-12 with little higher infestation found in Ginger-2. Ginger- 10. Ginger-15, Ginger-16. Ginger- 17 and Ginger- 19. The intensity of rhizome infestation interms of the length and breadth of tunnel made by rhizome fly was significantly lowest in Ginger-12 with little higher length and breadth of tunnel found  in  Ginger- IX  and  Ginger-15.  The  weight  of  healthy  rhizome  was  the highest in !he genotype Ginger-3 followed by Ginger- 11. Ginger-6. Ginger-8. Ginger-10 and  Ginger- 12  with  highest  yield  in  Ginger- 12  followed  by  Ginger­ 11. Ginger- I0 and Ginger-6. Considering the above the genotypes Ginger-12 Gniger-2. Ginger- 10. Ginger-11, Ginger- 17 . Ginger- I6,  Ginger- 15 and Ginger-18 were found to be relative resistant against the Stilt-legged rhizome fly) .

To evaluate the susceptibility or resistance of some  ginger genotypes against rhizome fly  in  the  field  as well  as  to  study  yield  performance  of dif ferent  ginger genotypes attacked by rhizome fly.

A n experiment with 18 genotypes  of  ginger  was  conducted  in  the experimental field of Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh during the period from April 2005 to March 2006 for screening the genotypes against the Stilt­ legged   rhizome   fly   (Mimegralla   coeruleifrons).   To    identify    the resistance/su sceptibility against the rhizome fly, 18 genotypes of ginger were tested. The genotypes were Ginger-1 (Sripur, Gazipur), Ginger-2 (Rangam ati), Ginger-3 (Chittagong), Ginger-4  (lndia-1), Ginger-S (lndia-JJ), Ginger-6 (Mymensingh), Ginger-7 (India-Ill), Ginger-8 (Mirzapur, Gazipur), Ginger-9 (Chin a-f), Ginger-10 (China-II), Ginger-II (China-III), Ginger-12 (Sierra Leone), Ginger-13 (Japanese-1), Ginger-15 (Rangamati-1), Ginger-16 (Rangamati-2), Ginger-1 7 (Rangamati-3), Ginger-18 (Hath azari), and Ginger-19 (Khagrachori). The experiment was designed in RCBD with 3 replications. Line to line distance was 30 cm  and  plant-to-plant distance was 15 cm. The distance between plot-to-plot and block-to-block was 30 cm and 100 cm respectively. During the  experimental  period  normal  cultivation procedures such as manure and fertilizer  application ,  mulching,  weeding  and irrigation were followed. The data were recorded at tillering and harvesting stage. Data recorded were percentage of infested shoots and healthy shoots, percentage of healthy rhizomes and infested rhizomes, the length and breadth of tunnel made by rhizome fly and finally weight per healthy rhizome and total yield at harvest. The data were analyzed statistically using MSTAT software and mean s were separated by Duncan 's Multiple Range Test.

Considering the above parameters. the genotypes Ginger-12, Ginger-2, Ginger-10, Ginger-11 , Ginger-17,  Ginger-19, Ginger-16,  Ginger-15  and  Ginger-18 were found to be relatively tolerant against the rhizome fly and the weight of healthy rhizome was the highest for the genotypes of Ginger-3, Ginger- 11, Ginger-6 , Ginger- 8, Ginger- I0 and Ginger-12. The genotype of Ginger-12 provided the highest yield. The second highest significant yield was obtained in Ginger-11 followed by Ginger-10 and Ginger-6.
