The experiment was conducted at the Central Research Farm of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARl), Gazipur during the rabi season of 2005- 2006 to evaluate the effect of 'Lalon '. an organic fertilizer on the yield of tomato. There were: seven levels of fertilizer V IZ. Absolute control. 'Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha. 100% recommended dose (RD) of fertilizer as per BARC Guide'2005. ' 'Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha + 75% RD. 'Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha + 50% RD and 'Lalon ' @ 200 kg t/ha + 25% RD. Recommended dose of fertilizer for tomato was 120-40- 100-20-1-0.5 kg/ha of N-P-K-S-B-Mo, respectively + cowdung @ 3 ton/ha. Different doses of chemical fertilizer in combination with 'Lalon ' had significant effect on the yield and yield components of tomato. The highest fruit yield (50.79 t/ha) was recorded with 'Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha + 100% RD. which was statistically similar with that of 'Lalon ' @ 200 kg/ha + 75% RD and Lalon @ 200 kg/ha + 50% RD. The yield components mostly followed the trend of fruit yield. Economic analysis showed that the highest gross margin (Tk. 4946201/ha) was obtained with the treatment receiving 'Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha + Ioo% RD but its variable cost was also highest. The gross margin of the treatment having 'Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha +50% RD was Tk . 4.42.910/ha and its marginal rate of return (MRR ) was the highest (3255%) as it involved less variable cost which might be economically viable for the farmers.

To evaluate the effect of 'Lalon' on the yield attributes and yield of tomato and to find out a suitable combination of inorganic nutrients along with 'Lalon' for optimum yield of tomato .

A field trial was conducted at the central research farm of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Joydebpur, Gazipur during rabi season of 2005-2006 for evaluating an organic fertilizer i.e. 'Lalon'. 'Lalon' contains 22% organic matter,3% N, 12% P205, 11% K20, 5% S, 4% Ca, 0.75% Mg, 0.1% B, 0.4% Fe and 0.08% Zn. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design(RCBD)with 3 replications. The imposed treatments were; Tl: Absolute control , T2:'Lalon' an organic fertili zer)@ 200 kg/ha , T3: 100% recommended fertilizer (RD)as per BARC Fertilizer Recommendation Guide' 2005, T4:'Lalon' @ 200kg/ha+100% RD Lalon'@200 kg/ha + 75% RD. T6: 'Lalon' @ 100 kg/ha + 50% RD and T7: 'Lalon'@ 200 kg/ha + 15% RD. Recommended dose for tomato was: 120-40- 100-20- 1-0.5 kg of N-P- K -S-B-Mo, respectively + cowdung(CD)@ 3 t/ha. Initial soil were analyzed for different chemical parameters using standard Methods. Chemical analysis of 'Lalon' and post-harvest soil were also done. Data collected from each plot) yield and yield attributes were statistically analyzed and the significance of the difference among the treatment means were evaluated by Least Significant Difference (LSD) test for interpretation of the results. Based on LSD values different treatment means were separated from each other by different letters for easy interpretation. Economic analysis was done on the basis of local and present market price of inputs and products.

The effect of a newly developed organic fertilizer 'Lalon' in combination with different fractions of recommended dose (RD) of fertilizer was studied and the results are given here In order to find out the use of 'Lalon' combined with a suitable fertilizer dose. economic evaluation of different treatment combinations were done through partial budgeting and dominance analysis.Data show margin of taka  4.94,620 per hectare was obtained in tomato from the treatment T ('Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha + I00% RD) but its variable cost (Tk. l3,280/ha) "'as also the highest. The gross margin in the treatment  T5 (Tk. 4.65,915/ha) and T6 (Tk. 42.910/ha) were very close to the T4 treatment. Through the dominance analysis T3 (100% RD) was identified as cost dominated treatment. The marginal analysis of cost undominated treatment on different fertilizer levels showed that marginal rate of return (NRR) was the  highest (3.255%) in the treatment T6 ('Lalon' @ 200 kg/ha + 50% RD). This results suggests that for more economic benefit treatment T6 where 'Lalon' (200 kg/ha ) was applied along wit h the 50% recommended dose of fertilizer (BARC. 2005) could he chosen for tomato cultivation in Gray Terrace Soil of Bangladesh.
