A field experiment was conducted at the research farm of Crop Botany Department, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh during rabi season of 2007- 2008 to study the yield and economic performance of Brassica campestris C. BARI Sarisha 9 under late sown condition as affected by NPKS fertilizer dose and plant density.There were three levels of fertilizer doses v iz. F1= N75P20K28S18  kg/ha. F2= N110P30K40S25   kg/ ha,  F3= N145P40K52S33 kg/ ha  and three levels of plant density viz. P1= 60 plants/m-2, P2= 80 plants/m2,  P3 =100 plants/m2 in the experiment. Seeds of rapeseed variety BARI Sarisha 9 were sown on 28 November, 2007. Results showed that siIiqua/ plant and seed yield/ha were significantly influenced by different NPKS fertilizer doses and plant densities, and also 1000 seed weight by plant densities. Their interaction effects showed significant influence on siliqua/plant, seeds/siliqua and seed yield/ha. Fertilizer dose N145P40K52S33 kg/ha plus 100 plants/m-2 performed better with respect to seed yield/ ha. This treatment combination gave up to 25% higher seed yield (1103 kg/ha) compared to its control (842 kg/ha).Farmers may grow BARI Sarisha 9 using this technology to get higher gross return (TK. 37988), net return (TK . 10573) and benefit cost ratio (1.39) under late sown condition.

To determining optimum NPKS fertilizer dose along with appropriate plant density for higher seed yield and yield attributes and finding out the profitability of rapeseed cultivation under late sown condition.

The experiment was conducted at the research farm of Crop Botany Department, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur  Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh during rabi  season  of 2007- 2008  to study the influence of NKPS fertilizer dose and plant density on seed yield  and profitability of rapeseed under late sown condition. The experimental area belongs to the AEZ 28. The texture of soil was clay loam having pH 6.25, organic  matter 1.50%,  total  nitrogen 0.08%, available  phosphorus  14.15 ppm, exchangeable potassium 0.20 meq per 100 g soil, available sulphur 3.35% and boron 0.14 ppm. The experiment was laid out in a 2 factor split plot design (SPD)  with three replications. Three fertilizer doses vi z.  N75P20K28S18 kg/ha (F1),  N110P30K40S25kg/ ha (F2) and N145P40 K52S33 kg/ ha (F3) were assigned in main plot and three plant  densities vi z. 60 plants  m·2  (P1), 80 plants  m·2  (P2)  and  100 plants m·2 (P3) were placed as sub- plot. Seeds of variety BARI Sarisha 9 were collected from Oilseed Research  Centre, BARI.

Gross return per hectare increased with increasing of fertilizer dose and also plant density. Maximum gross return was found  from  the  highest  dose  of NPKS fertilizers along with maximum plant density (F3P3) might be due to its higher seed yield and biological yield, but the minimum gross return was observed  at the lowest fertilizer dose net return and benefit cost ratio, fertilizer dose N145P40K52S33 kg/ha along with plant density 100 plants/m2 performed best under late sown condition. By this treatment combination, yield of rape seed (BARI Sarisha 9) could be increased up to 25% and it is 17.30% higher than our national average of 898 kg/ ha.
