The main objective of this study was to find out the opinion  of the  farmers on effectiveness  of  farm  forestry  towards sustainable agricultural  development. The other objectives were i) to determine the extent of adoption  of farm forestry activities by the  farmers, ii ) to determine and  describe  some of  the selected characteristics of the farmers viz age, education, farm  size, annual income, organizational    participation,   training    attended,   communication   exposure, cosmopolite ness,  innovative ness,  farmers experience,  fatalism,  perception   of sustainable agricultural  development, knowledge of farm forestry, awareness on effectiveness   of   farm   forestry   on   environment,   and   iii)  to   explore  the relationship between  the selected characteristics of the farmers and their opinion on effectiveness  of farm forestry towards sustainable agricultural development. Data were obtained from 1 20 randomly selected respondents of eight villages of two upazilas i n Sirajgonj  district  during 4 August to 25 August 2001 . Twenty percent  farm families  were selected  following  the stratified  random  sampling method (considering the  adoption  of  farmers  farm  forest ry i n eight  villages) from a  population  of  600  for  collecting data.  Data  were  collected  through personal interview using interview schedule. The  average  lands  under  farm  forestry  coverage  were  0.52  ha.  Eucal yptus, mahogany akash moni  a nd rain tree  were  t he four  important  trees,  which  were used  in  the  field  crop.  Abou t 60  percent  and 65  percent  of  the  respondents  received  primary  a  nd exi sting  information  about  farm  forestry  from  National Development Programme  (NDP)  respectively, 72  percent  of  the  respondents established   farm   forestry   by  their  own   money  and  others   had  taken  loan. Generally respondents did not face major problem to different crop  production. Purchase  of  sapling  43.33   and  30   percent   from  N DP  and  private  nursery, respectively. About 43.33  percent of farmers purchased  sapling from NDP and 30  percent  from  private  nursery.  Majority  (88  percent) of  the  farmers opined that fa nn  forestry  had  moderately  positive to  highly  positive  effect  of  farm forestry  towards  sustainable  agricultural   development  while   the   rest   ( l 2 percent) opined for less positive effect  of farm forestry. Correlation  analysis  indicates that  t he  characteristics  of  the  farmers such  as· education,     farm size, annual   income,     communication   exposure, cosmopolite ness,     innovative ness,   perception    of    sustainable   agricultural development,  knowledge  of  farm  forestry, and  awareness on  effectiveness  of farm  forestry  on  environment  had  significant  positive  relationship  and  age, training attended , organizational  participation, farming  experience, and fatalism had  non significant  positive  relationship  with  the  opinion   of  the  farmers on effectiveness of farm forestry towards sustainable agricultural development.

I. To determine and describe the extent of farmers practice of farm forestry in their crop field

II. To determine the opinion of farmers on effectiveness of farm forestry towards sustainable agricultural development

Ill. To explore relationship between the opinion of the farmers on effectiveness of farm forestry towards sustainable agricultural development and each of the selected characteristics of the farmers

Data were obtained from 120 randomly selected respondents of eight villages of two upazilas in Sirajgonj  district  during 4 August to 25 August 2001 .
