Atiitude of Block Supervisors Towards the Use of Agrochemicals

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The findings revealed that 51 percent of the BSs had fair knowledge on agrochemicals while 33 percent and 16 percent had good and very good knowledge respectively. On the other hand, 14 percent of the BSs had highly favourable attitude towards agrochemicals while 43 percent had slightly as well as moderately favourable attitude. The correlation test showed that training experience and cosmopoliteness of the BSs had significant positive relationships with their knowledge on agrochemicals. Level of education and training experience of the BSs showed significant positive relationships with their attitude towards agrochemicals, while annual income of the BSs had significant negative relationship with their attitude towards agrochemicals. The rest of the characteristics of the BSs had, however, no significant relationships with their knowledge and attitude towards the use of agrochemicals.

Objectives:

To investigate the Block Supervisors' (BSs) attitude towards the use of agrochemical and also to explore the relationships between the selected characteristics of the BSs (i.e. independent variables) with their knowledge and attitude towards agrochemicals

Methodology:

Data for this study were collected from a sample of 70 BSs, covering all the five upazila of Sherpur district. The researcher collected data by himself through distributed questionnaires from the BSs during 30 September to 10 November 1999. Simple and direct questions and different scales were used to obtain information. Coefficients of correlation (r) were computed in order to explore the relationships between the dependent and independent variables. However, descriptive statistics like mean, standard deviation, range, minimum, maximum were computed to describe the dependent and independent variables.

Achievement/Findings:

The attitude of the BSs towards agrochemicals had no significant positive relationship with their cosmopoliteness and media exposure. Though it was not significant but a positive trend was found. So, it may be concluded that, if the BSs were exposed to more cosmopolite sources and had higher media exposure, these BSs could develop favourable attitude towards agrochemicals.
