In 1993, out of 64 districts the PTM males were caught in the pheromone- baited traps from 37 districts, such as Lalmonirhat, Khagrachari, Feni, Noakhali, Kurigram, Rangpur, Natore, Netrokona, Tangail, Jessore, Gopalganj, Narail, Chittagong, Munshiganj, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Gazipur, Kishoreganj, Rangamati, Hobiganj, Manikganj, Bagerhat, Dinajpur, Narasindi, Chandpur, B-Baria, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajiganj, Thakurgaon, Nawabganj, Joypurhat, Noagaon, Pirojpur, Nilphamari and Magura. No PTM adults were caught from the rest of the districts indicating that apparently males were not available in those districts. From three years monitoring it was observed that out of 64 districts in Bangladesh, the male PTM adults were not caught in pheromone-baited traps form 24 districts such as Rajbari, Cox's Bazar, Moulovibazar, Naraynganj, Barguna, Bandarban, Laximpur, Sunamganj, Dhaka, Bhola, Chuadanga, Camilla, Pabna, Meherpur, Patuakhali, Sylthet, Panchagahr and Shariatpur. Therefore, survey results indicate that 40 districts in Bangladesh have the incidence of the PTM. However, the highest catch of the PTM was recorded from Rangpur, Dinajpur, Bogra, Thakurgaon, and Joypurhat districts which constitute the northern parts of Bangladesh. The survey data support the fact that the PTM causes more damage to the home-stored potatoes in this part of the country as the farmers cannot store potatoes in cold stores due to insufficient cold stores in this area. Again, potato was first cultivated in Rangpur, Bogra, Rajshahi and Mymensingh districts from seed tubers imported from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar of India. It is logical to believe that the PTM was introduced through seed tubers from India to the northern districts of Bangladesh and the problem is still continuing. From the above survey it is clear that the pest has the highest incidence in the northern parts of the country. Efforts should be directed to that part to control the PTM in home-stored potatoes so that the farmers may be benefited by controlling the pest in storage.
