Development of BRRI Panicle Thresher

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

BRRI panicle threshers was designed, developed and fabricated in local farm machinery manufacturer named Farida Engineering Workshops, Bogra under public private partnership approach. BRRI provided technical and material support to the manufacturer. The thresher has the provision of threshing panicle, cleaning, bagging, transportation. The added advantage of the thresher is straw remain unchanged after threshing. Performance test was done in the BRRI research workshop for threshing rice and wheat. The threshing capacity of the thresher obtained 400 kg/hr and cleaning capacity obtained 1500 kg/hr, respectively. Moreover, farmers can use this thresher in rural areas to get more comfortability in threshing and cleaning.

Objectives:

Methodology:

For development

MS sheet, flat bar, angle bar, shaft bar, GI pipe, Nuts and Bolts
Wire-loop threshing drum
Feeding mechanism
Gravitational chute
Belt-pulley arrangement to transmit engine power
Laboratory test of the thresher performance evaluation of the thresher

Design consideration: The following design criteria were considered to develop panicle thresher

Ease of threshing, cleaning, bagging and transportation
Easy and simple of operation and maintenance
Locally available materials should be used to minimize the fabrication cost
Capacity of threshing and winnowing facility should be accepted by the users

Fabrication and performance test of the thresher: BRRI panicle threshers were fabricated in local farm machinery manufacturer named Farida Engineering Workshops, Bogra under direct supervision of BRRI.B-type V grooved pulley were used in threshing drum, blower and delivery chute. Initial performance test was done in the research workshop with rice and wheat. During test, the following data were collected

RPM of the threshing drum in load and un-load conditions
Cylinder speed
Un-threshed loss
Speed of threshing drum, blower and auger
Threshing and cleaning capacity

Achievement/Findings:

Transportation, cleaning and bagging facilities were added in the BRRI Panicle thresher. Moreover, straw remain unchanged after threshing. This machine can be used as an alternative to winnower.
