Field Performance of Riding Type Transplanter in Boro Season

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The 6-row ride-on transplanter (model S3-680) was operated in 10 farmer’s plots. By providing technical suggestion and machinery adjustment the number of tray requirement per acre was drastically reduced from 133 to 88. The another 6-row ride-on transplanter (model DUO66) was operated in 14 farmers’ plot and tray requirement per acre was drastically reduced from 109 to 72. Area covered was 3.85 acre per day in Pathanpara, Joypurhat. The area coverage of transplanting depended on plot size, shape, soil condition and the distance among the plots. DUO66 model 6-row mechanical transplanter was operated in Nandigram, Bogra. Picker setting was adjusted to 2. Number of seedlings dispensed in each stroke was very high (sometimes 19-21). It was identified that one of the picker was malfunctioned and unable to release seedling from the picker. The problem was rectified and started in operation. S3-680 model of 6-row mechanical transplanter was operated in Pathanpara, Joypurhat. Seedling density nob was set at 2. In 53% places, more than 8 numbers of seedlings were dispensed in each hill. Number seedling per hill should be reduced to 5-6. Seedling density should be adjusted depending on seedling condition in tray.

To increase area coverage of transplanting (4.0-4.5 acre per day)

Methodology:

From 06-02-14 to 07-02-14, the research team visited three places to monitor the transplanting activity by mechanical transplanter. Two models (DUO60 and S3-680) of 6-row riding type mechanical transplanters were operated in Trimphoni, Nandigram and Pathanpara, Joypurhat. The variety BRRI dhan29, minicate and BR16 were grown in the study areas.

Data analysis and presentation: Data were analysed using EXCEL software and presented in graphs.

Achievement/Findings:

The targets set by Syngenta were achieved by providing technical assistance to the operator.

Tray consumption was reduced drastically from 125 to 75 trays per acre.
Daily area coverage of transplanting was increased from 1.25 to 3.85 acre per day.
Seedling density adjustment and depth of placement not only depends on seedling status but also soil type.
