The Experiment was conducted at the Research Field of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Rajshahi, Bangladesh during T. Aman (Rainfed lowland rice) 2000 and Bora 2000-2001 with a view to develop a hybrid rice seed production package for farmer's field level without maintaining isolation. The plant height of Cytoplasmic-genetic Male Sterile (CMS) or A line-IR58025A, total & effective tillers per hill, panicles per square meter, spikelets per panicle, percent seed set and seed yield were significantly affected by row ratio of A and R (Restorer BR827R) lines. But the plant height of A line did not differ significantly. The higher values of these characters were found in higher row ratio (4:4) except percent seed set. Although there was no significant difference in all the characters for 3:3 and 4:4 row ratio except panicles/m2 , spikelets /panicle and yield. No significant difference was observed in all the characters as affected by flag leaf clipping. The off-type of F1 hybrid grown in Bora 2000-2001 was not significant due to row ratio and flag leaf clipping. Although on an average 2.2 percent off-type was found in F1 hybrid, which was near about acceptable range (2 %) of certified seed. Therefore, it can be said that farmers may produce hybrid rice seeds following 4:4 row ratio and without flag leaf clipping with 4 rows border of R line.

To develop a hybrid rice seed production package in farmer's field without maintaining isolation

The experiment was conducted at the Research Field of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Rajshahi, Bangladesh in T. Aman 2000 and Bora 2000-2001 season. The experimental field was in High Gangetic River Flood Plain Agro-Ecological Zone (AEZ-11) belonging to the silty-loam soil type with pH ranging from 7.0 to 8.2.The seeds of hybrid IR69690H (IR58025NBR827R) were produced in T. Aman, 2000 and evaluated for the genetic purity in Boro 2000-2001. There were two factors - i) row ratio as designed by T of Cytoplasmic-genetic Male Sterile (CMS) or A & Restorer (R) lines and ii) flag leaf- clipping as designed by L. The levels of T were T1=1:1, T2=2:2, T3=3:3 & T4=4:4 and L were L1=clipped & L2=unclipped. The experiment was conducted following factorial RCBD with 3 replications. The R line was sown on three different dates at 8 days interval. The seeding interval of A & R lines was adjusted with 2nd seeding of R line. Three sets of R line seedlings were transplanted when the seedling age of 2nd set was 25 days. Twenty - five days old seedlings of A line were transplanted at 10 days after the R line transplanting. The seed rate was 10 kg/ha A & 12 kg /ha R lines. The fertilizer rate was 180,100,70, 60 and 10 kg/ha Urea, TSP, MP, Gypsum and ZnS04 respectively. The plant height of A & R lines, total & effective tillers/hill, panicles/m2 , spikelets/panicle, out crossing rate, seed yield and off-type in hybrid were observed during the experimental period.

The plant height of A line -IR58025A differed significantly as affected by row ratio between A and R line-BR827R but not with flag leaf clipping might be due to competition with R line for light. The tallest A line was found in 4:4 row rat:o (73 cm), which was statistically similar with 3:3 and the shortest in 1:1 row ratio (64 cm) which was identically followed by 2:2 (66 cm). The plant height of R line did not vary significantly due to row ratio and flag leaf clipping  due to less competition with shorter A line for light Result showed that both the total and effective tillers/hill of A line significantly affected by row ratio and no significant effect was observed for flag leaf clipping . It was found that the higher total and effective tillers/hill produced by higher row ratio and lower by lower row ratio. The variation might be occurred as because the taller R line less suppressed the shorter A line in higher row ratio and more suppressed in lower row ratio during tiller production Considering all the factors it might be recommended 4:4 row ratio with 4 rows border of R line and without flag leaf clipping for producing hybrid seeds in farmer's field. If it is possible to maintain 15-20 days time isolation during seed production, the seed purity of F1 hybrid can be increased. From the above result it could be said the farmers would be able to produce 27.5 kg hybrid rice seeds by using 1 kg A and 1.2 kg R line seeds which would cover 1.5 ha of land for hybrid rice cultivation. Farmers could be maintained R line seeds year after year as inbreed seeds. Therefore, farmers need only the A line seeds every year to produce hybrid rice seeds. It might be possible to supply A line seeds by government Institutes or NGO to produce hybrid rice seeds in farmer's field.
