Response of Boro Rice to Added Fertilizer Nutrients Irrigated Medium High Land Under Aez 9

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The field experiment was carried out in the Old Brahmaputra Floodplain soil of MLT site Melandah, Jamalpur, Bangladesh during the period from February 5-7, 2002 to May 30-31 2002 to find out the yield response of boro rice to chemical fertilizers. The response of all nutrients showed a quadratic relationship in boro rice. The results indicated that all the treatments gave significantly higher yield over absolute control. The dose 144-26-46-23 kg/ha NPKS.

Objectives:

To improve crop productivity and soil fertility. Thus the experiment was undertaken to determine optimum and economic dose of nutrients for boro under medium high land at Jamalpur region.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Multi-location Test Site, Melandah, Jamalpur, Bangladesh during the period from 5-7 February 2002 to 30-31 May 2002 to observe the response of boro rice to added fertilizer nutrients in irrigated medium high land under AEZ 9. Represented soil samples were collected initially before setup the experiment from the experimental site and analyzed in the laboratory. The experimental site belongs to the Old Brahmaputra floodplain having the texture loamy to clay loam. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with six dispersed replications. Maximum rate = - b/2 c (The regression equation was done from scattered polynomial graph. For maximum rate the graph was made fertilizer dose with crop yield and for economic dose, the graph was made fertilizer with gross margin, the regression equation is Y= (-cx² + bx +a) and for economic rate= 1/2 c (Pf / Py-b). Where, b and c = Regression co-efficient. Economic analysis of different treatments was done for boro.

Achievement/Findings:

Response of all nutrients showed a quadratic relationship. Grain yield of boro rice was increased with the increase of N supply up to the rate 145 kg/ha due to optimum N uptake. Thereafter additional N cannot increase yield. Using the best regression model the level for maximum grain yield was estimated at N144 kg/ha which was equal level of HYG (136-180 kg/ha) and higher than cropping pattern based N rate (100 kg/ha) for boro rice under AEZ 9. From the regression model of P response, maximum yield was estimated from the effect of P₂₆ kg/ha which was about similar to HYG rate (21-30 kg/ha) and higher than pattern based P recommendation (12 kg/ha). This result observed by P deficiency of this area. P status of the experimental area was low (7.99 kg/ha). Partial budget (cost and return) analysis of the trial on boro rice was shown in Table 3. Among the different levels of N, highest gross margin (Tk. 35197) was obtained from HYG rate (N 145 kg/ha) and its BCR was highest (7.65). The economic rate was N,44 kg /ha. In case of P level highest gross margin (Tk. 35197) was observed in P₂₆ kg/ha and its BCR was second highest (7.65). The highest gross margin (TK. 35197) was obtained from HYG rate of K among the different levels of K. The economic level of K₄₅ kg/ha. For S level maximum gross margin (Tk. 35197) was obtained from HYG rate S₂₂ kg/ha for boro. Considering the all nutrients, • economically benefit dose for boro was 144, 24, 45 and 21 kg/ha of NPKS respectively. N was lower and PKS were higher in comparison to farmers practice (160-14-19-10).
