The present experiment was conducted for a period of six months from January to June 2000 in ponds each having a surface area of 44 m2 and water depth of 1 m. Four treatments namely cow manure at high dose (CH: 1610.74 kglha) and low dose (CL: 805.37 kglha) and poultry manure at high dose (PH: 1116.28 kglha) and low dose (PL: 558.14 kglha) each in triplicate were used in the study. All the manures were applied fortnightly. Sampling was done at monthly intervals. Three species of fishes (Rui, Catla, Carpio) were stocked at the density of 8000/ha at the ratio ofRui:Catla:Carpio = 4:3:3.The highest and the lowest percent of weight gain of all the fishes were recorded in PH treatment which was followed by the treatments CH, PL and CL. The same trend was also followed in case of percent of specific growth rate (% SGR) in all the fishes among all the treatments. The recorded values of all the water quality parameters were within the productive range.

The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design (RBD). Four treatments namely, poultry high (PH), cowdung high (CH), poultry low (PL) and cowdung low (CL) were used in the experiment. Each of the treatments were run in triplicates. The high dose of cowdung (CH) and poultry manure (PH) were 1610.74 kg!ha and 1116.28 kg/ha and low dose of cowdung (CL) and poultry manure (PL) were 805.37 kg/ha and 558.14 kg!ha respectively. Fertilization was done at 15 days intervals.Water Quality Parameter The physical and chemical parameters of water were recorded at forthrightly intervals. The water temperature and transparency were recorded by centigrade thermometer and secchidisc respectively. Water depth was estimated by a meter scale. Dissolved oxygen content of water was measured by DO meter (YSI model 58, made in USA) while the pH of water was measured by pH meter (Jenway model 3020, made in UK). 3.5 Stocking The  fishes were stocked at a density of 8000/ha after 10 days of fertilization. Three species of fishes (Rui, Catla, Carpio) were stocked at the ratio of Rui:Catla:Carpio = 4:3:3. Fish meal, rice bran and wheat bran (fish meal : rice bran : wheat bran = 10:40:50) were supplied once daily at the rate of 5% body weight. 3.6 Fish Growth To estimate the fish growth, 30 percent of the total fishes were collected at every month by using cast and seine net. After collection of the fishes the growth rate were measured in weight. After measuring the weight all the fishes were released into the ponds without delay.

The values of water temperature and water transparency were found to ranged from 22-31°C and 24-35 em respectively. Dissolved oxygen concentration of the treated ponds fluctuated from 5 to 7.5 mg/L. The PH values ranged from 6 to 8.2. Three species of fishes (Rui, Catla, Carpio) were stocked at the density of 8000/ha at the ratio of Rui : Catla : Carpio= 4 : 3 : 3. The maximum and minimum percent of weight gain of all the fishes over the whole experimental period PH treatment was followed by the treatment CH, PL and CL respectively. The similar trend was followed in case of percent of specific growth rate (SGR) in all the fishes among all the treatments, From the aforesaid research findings, it can be concluded that the PH treatment is the best among all the treatments. Therefore the fish culturist are encouraged to use the poultry manure and its dose (1116.28 kg/ha) for increasing the fish production.
