Perception of Integrated Plant Nutrition System (ipns) for Sustainable Crop Production

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The main objectives of this study were to investigate the Block Supervisors' (BSs') perception of Integra ted Plant Nutrition System (IPNS) for sustainable crop production and also to explore the relationships between the selected characteristics of the BSs and their perception towards lPNS. Data were collected from all the 56 BSs of Pakundia and Kotiadi upazilas of Kishoregonj district. Informations were gathered through personal interview with the BSs during 20 January to 28 February 2001. Simple and direct questions with different scales were used to obtain information on by structured interview schedule. Coefficient of correlation (r) were computed in order to explore the relationships between the dependent and independent variables. Each of the twelve characteristics of the BSs namely age, education, annual income, rural background, training received, newspaper exposure, tenure of service, radio exposure, attitude towards use of agro-chemicals, knowledge on agro-chemicals, achievement motivation, attitude towards DAE projects constituted independent variables while the BS's perceptions of lPNS ''as a dependent variable

Methodology:

An upto date data and complete list of the BSs working at Pakundia and Kotiadi upazila were collected from the office of the Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension, Kishoregonj. The list showed that only 56 BSs were working in the selected two upazila. Data were collected from all the 56 BSs of Pakundia and Kotiadi upazilas of Kishoregonj district. Achievement/Findings:

The major findings were that the majority of the B Ss ( 7 1 percent) had highly favorable perceptions of lPNS. while the rest (29 percent ) had moderately favorable perception or this system The correlation test showed that the news paper exposure . achievement motivation and attitude towards different DAEI::. projects or the BSs had significant positive relationship with their perception of lPNS, while the rest of the independent variables i.e. age, education, annual income, rural background, training back ground tenure of service, radio exposure, attitude towards use of agro-chemicals and knowledge on agro-chemical s showed no significant relationship.
