Response of garlic (cv. Rajshahi local) to zinc, boron and poultry manure along with a blanket dose of N150P50K100S40 kg ha-1 were evaluated through field trial in the Grey Terrace Soil of Joydebpur during rabi (winter) season of 2004-2005. Application of zinc, boron and poultry manure significantly increased plant height, number of leaves plnat-1, cloves bulb-1, diameter and weight of bulb, and also yields ha-1. Significantly the highest bulb yield (7.32 t ha-1) was obtained from the N150P50K100S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus 5 t ha-1 poultry manure treatment than that of other treatments. The second highest yield of 7.00 t ha-1 was obtained from the N150P50K100S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus 2.5 t ha-1 poultry manure treatment. Treatments N150P50K 100S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus 2.5 t ha-1 poultry manure and N150P50K100 S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus 5 t ha-1poultry manure were not economical because of their higher cost investment. However, application of N150P50K100S40Zn5 kg ha-1 would be economically profitable for garlic production in the Grey Terrace Soil of Joydebpur, Gazipur.

To study the response of garlic to zinc, boron and poultry manure in presence of N, P, K and S in Grey Terrace Soil of Joydebpur, Gazipur.

A field experiment was conducted in the Grey Terrace Soil (Aibaquepts) of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute Farm, Joydebpur, Gazipur during rabi (winter) season of 2004-2005. There were two levels of zinc (0, 5 kg ha-1 from zinc oxide), two levels of boron (0 and 1 kg B ha-1 as Boric acid) and three levels of poultry manure (0, 2.5 and 5.0 t ha-1 Eight treatments consisting of the absolute control, (Native soil), N150P50K100S40 kg ha-1, N150P50K100S40Zn0B0 kg ha-1 plus PM (poultry manure) 5 t ha-1, N150P50K100S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1, N150P50K100S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1, N150P50K100S40 Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus PM 2.5 t ha-1, N150P50K100S40 Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus PM 5 t ha-1 and N150P50K100S40 Zn5B1 kg ha-1. The experiment was set up in a Randomized Complete Block (RCB) design replicated 3 times. The unit plot size was 5 m x 3 m. A blanket dose. of 150 kg N ha-1 as Urea, 50 kg P ha-1 from triple super phosphate (TSP), 100 kg K ha-1 from muriate of potash (MOP) and 40 S ha-1 as gypsum were applied to each treatment except control. The whole amount of TSP, MOP, Gypsum, Zinc oxide, Boric acid and 1 of Urea were applied as per treatment at final land preparation. Cloves of garlic (cv, Rajshahi local) were sown on 18 November, 2004 at a spacing of 20 cm x 10 cm. The remaining 2 of urea was applied in two equal installments at 3d and 61 week after sowing. A light irrigation by sprinkler was given to the field immediately after sowing along with 2 irrigation at 21 and 42 days after sowing. The intercultural operation such as irrigation, weeding, mulching etc, were done whenever required. The crop was harvested on 21 March, 2005. Data on yield and yield components were recorded and statistically analyzed. Least significant Difference (LSD) test was used for comparison of the mean values. Partial budget and marginal analysis of undominated fertilizer responses on garlic yield were done following the method suggested by Elias and Karim (1984).

Application of zinc, boron and poultry manure significantly increased yield attributes of garlic over control. Plant height, leaves plant-1, cloves bulb-1 and weight of bulb significantly increased with the increasing rate of poultry manure up to 5 t ha-1 along with 150 kg N, 50 kg P, 100 kg K and 40 kg S ha-1. The tallest plant, maximum number of leaves plant-1, cloves bulb-1, bigger diameter and heavier bulb were produced by the treatment N150P50K100S40Zn5B1 kg ha-1 plus 5 t ha-1 of poultry manure.
