Effect of Spun Yarn Quality with Increasing Spindle Speed of Spinning Machine

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A study was carried out to find out the effect of yam quality with increasing spindle speed. This research work was carried out at spinning department of Padma Textile Mills Ltd. in 2000. The main objective of the study was to investigate the effect of spindle speeds on various physical properties of the carded and combed yam such as thick and thin Places, Um%, CVm%, hairiness, neps, yam strength etc. at different twist level of 24.47, 25.88, 34 TPI. The speed range of ring frame was 15000 r.p.m to 19000 r.p.m. Spindle speed is one of the important factors, which affects the yam properties, i.e., tensile strength, mass irregularity, imperfections and yam hairiness. The imperfections were measured by Uster EvenessT ester (UT-3) where as strength was measured by Uster Tensojet. In the study it was revealed that with increasing spindle speed all parameters of yam quality affects significantly. Yam quality deteriorates with increasing Spindle speed.

Objectives:

To find out the effect of yam quality with increasing spindle speed.

Methodology:

The experiments were carried out on both carded and combed yam. 30/1 Cotton Carded with TPI 24.47, 80/1 Combed (Type A) with TPI 34 and 40/1 Combed (Type C) with TPI 25.88 were made from fibre IVORY(85%) & CIS(15%), Egyptian Giza 24/00 and Yemen 31/00 respectively (1,4). Shanghai Erfrangi (China) , Model - FA 507A ring machine was used to produce yam and the spindle speeds selected for this experiment was from 15,000- 19,000 r.p.m. Samples were taken after one shift production for quality test of CVm%, Um%, hairiness, IPI , thick places and thin places, tenacity etc. Uster tester UT3 was used for the study of CVm%,Um%, hairiness, thick places and thin places. For tenacity and elongation Uster Tensojet was used (7).
