Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Objective of this study was to assess the effect and to find out the optimum concentration of chitosan to obtain higher yields of tomato, mungbean and maize. The experiment was conducted at BINA sub-station Ishurdi and at farmer’s field in Rangpur district during November 2012 to April 2013. Foliar application of chitosan growth regulator on Binatomato-7 at different growth stages with different concentrations revealed that two-spray with 75 ppm at vegetative and reproductive stages was suitable for increased yield. Application of chitosan on Binamoog-7 and Binamoog-8 @ 25-50 ppm at vegetative and reproductive stages increased grain yield. Application of chitosan on maize @ 75 ppm from at vegetative stages of 20, 35, 50 and 65 DAS increased grain yield.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at BINA sub-station Ishurdi during the period from November 2012 to April 2013 to investigate the effect of different levels of chitosan concentration on yield and yield contributing characters of tomato cv. Binatomato-7. Five concentrations viz. 0, 50, 75, and 100 ppm was sprayed at vegetative and reproductive stage. In control, water was sprayed as per treatment. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The unit plot size was 4 m × 3 m and plant spacing was 50 cm × 50 cm. Recommended intercultural operations were followed. The effects of chitosan were also observed on mungbean and maize similarly. The experiment was conducted at BINA HQs farm during March to May 2013 to investigate the response of mungbean at different concentrations of chitosan (growth regulator) on yield and yield contributing characters. Five different concentrations of chitosan viz., 0, 50, 75, 100, and 125 ppm were sprayed at vegetative and reproductive stages of two mungbean varieties, Binamoog-7, Binamoog-8. The unit plot size was 2 m × 3 m and plant spacing was 30 cm × 10 cm. The experiment was conducted at farmer’s field in Rangpur district during November 2012 to April 2013 to investigate the response of maize to different concentrations of chitosan (growth regulator) on yield and yield contributing characters. The hybrid variety, BARI Maize-9 was used. Five different concentrations of chitosan viz., 0, 50, 75, 100, and 125 ppm was sprayed four times starting from 20 days after sowing with 15 days interval. The unit plot size was 3.9 m × 4.9 m and plant spacing was 70 cm × 30 cm.
