Twelve interspecies crosses were made involving seven genotypes of three Brassica species namely; B. campestris, B. juncea & B. napus in the Experimental Farm, Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. In the crossing programme, B. napus lines were used as maternal parents and varieties of B. juncea and B. campestris as pollen donors. The crossing programme was undertaken to transfer shattering resistant gene (s) from B. campestris and B. juncea to B. napus. Crossability was found higher in case of B. napus x B. campestris than that in the B. napus x B. juncea. Average siliqua and seed setting in different crosses was 24.6% and 2.56 seeds per siliqua, respectively in case of B. napus x B. campestris. The same was 28.2% and only 0.29 seeds per siliqua in case of B. napus x B. juncea. The cross Nap-8509 x Tori-7 gave 51.8% siliqua and 5.07 seeds per siliqua. This cross gave the best result among all the crosses made.

To determine the crossability of B. campestris and B. juncea varieties with B. napus lines.

Seven varieties/lines of three Brassica species, namely; Tori-7 and Sampad of Brassica campestris, Shambal and BAU-M/7 of B. juncea, Nap-3, Nap-3142 and Nap-8509 of B. napus were used for this study. The experiment was conducted in the Farm of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymemsingh during the winter season of 1993-94. The seeds were sown on 15 th November Ten days later another sowing was done to get the sufficient buds and' pollens for crossing. Standard cultural and management practices were followed for raising a good crop. At the time of flowering, the parents were crossed in the following combinations where B. napus genotypes were always in maternal parent. 1.  Nap-3 x Tori-7, 2. Nap-3142 x Tori- 7, 3. Nap-8509 x Tori-7 , 4. Nap-3x Sampad ,5. Nap-3142 x Sampad ,6. Nap-8509 x Sampad ,7.Nap-3 x Shambal, 8. Nap-3142 x Shambal,9. Nap-  8509 x Shambal,10.Nap-3 x BAU-M/7,11. Nap-3142 x BAU-M/7,12. Nap-8509 x BAU-M/7.Standard method of hybridizatio'n technique was  followed. Special  care  was  taken  for appropriate bud  selection, pollinatidn by  fresh  pollen and  avoidance of  any  undersirable pollen contamination. After maturity each  of  the  crossed inflorescence were  collected in separate bags  and  data  were  recorded on  number of  buds  pollinated, number of  siliqua developed and  number of  seeds  developed per  siliqua.
