Stability Analysis in Brassica Campestris

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Ten genotypes of B. campestris were grown in five years to investigate the stability of yield and its contributing characters. Genotypes-Environment (year) interactions were significant for all the characters studied. Only the genotype Tori-7. which is a poor performer for all the characters, showed non-significant deviation from regression (S²d) for most of the characters including seed yield/ plant. The genotype M-26 produced highest seed yield/plant as well as siliquae/ plant but showed significant S²d values for all other trails. The genotype M-95 showed good stability for plant height and siliquae/plant. Tori-7 and M-4 had good stabilities for primary branches/plant and seeds/siliquae, respectively.

The present stability study was carried out with 10 B. campestris genotypes over five years.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the winter seasons from 1982-83 to 1987-88 except 1985-86. Ten B. campestris genotypes were used in the study Data on plant height, primary branches/plant were recorded. The stability parameters, regression coefficient (b) of genotypes on environmental indices and deviations from regression ( S² d ) for different characters were calculated

Achievement/Findings:

Significant genetic variability for all characters were observed in the present materials under study. Significant environmental variations due to the differences in growing season (year) were present which exerted considerable influence on all the characters . Genotypes environments interactions were significant for all the characters. In the parental varieties, their F₁, F₂and bck crosses for siliquae/plant, seeds/siliquae and environments as indicated by their very small values of ' b ' ( 0.293 and 0.077 ) genotype which showed non-significant S² d values for all the the characters including seed yield/plant. For plant height, number of seeds/siliquae and seed yield/plant it showed less response to the changes in environment ( b<1 ). Moreover, Tori-7 showed poor performance for all the characters.
