Design of Deep Tubewells in Kishoregonj District Case Studies

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Previous long term static water level trend and lithologic formation were studied to determine the type of well technology to be used in the aquifer of Kishoregonj district. The rasuIts showed that Kishoregonj region possesses a good groundwater potential that is mostly suitable far 56.6 1(s cap.Jcity deep tubewells. The diameter of upper and lower casings of th:s kind of wells ware determined from required well yield. Length of upper well casing was calculated based on thickness of clay layer above the aquifer and stauc watdr level fluctuation trend. Screen slot size WdS recommended based on aquifer's grain size whereas length of screen was determined by the permeability and thickness of water bearing formation. A detail design requirements of 56.6 1/s capacity deep tube well were calculated considering the design and penetration factors.

Objectives:

To study the subsurface lithology of the area in terms of groundwater potentiality, and to formulate the design requirements for 56. 6 1/s capacity deep tubewells for the area.

Methodology:

The study was conducted at the drilling sites of six deep tuba walls in co-operation with M.A. Ouader Drilling Company Limited, presently engaged in constructing deep tubewells of Inter-national Development Agency ( IDA) project in Kishoregonj region. During drilling by reverse rotary method, samples of cutting materials at 3m depth interval were collected and the colour of the materials and any change In the formation experienced by the cutting bit were recorded. The samples wera inspected visually and graded by sieve analysis and a bore log was pre pared for lithologic studies. The depth and thickness of the aquifer were deter mined from lithological evaluation.
