Light Trap Incidence of Bph and Natural Enemies in Sirajganj

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Pennsylvanian light traps were operated at Washin, Dobila, Kanchaneswar and Hamkuria of of Tarash upazilla, Siranjgonj from June 2013 to May 2014 to monitor the abundance and incidence pattern of planthoppers and their natural enemies in the project area. Planthopper population started to build-up from the 3^rd week of July and peak incidence occurred during August to September and again in mid-October to mid-November. Peaked of natural enemies was found in mid-August to the end of September in Dobila. At Washin the planthoppers peaked from mid-August to the 1^st week of November. Light trap catches of the natural enemies were almost similar in different weeks from September to November, 2013 in Kanchaneswar except lady bird beetle which happened to be caught in the last week of September, 2013.During Boro 2014 the peak incidence of BPH was recorded in the 3^rd week of April in the above mentioned locations.

Objectives:

To monitor the abundance and incidence pattern of planthoppers and their natural enemies in the project area.

Methodology:

Pennsylvanian light traps were operated at three locations (Washin, Dobila, Kanchaneswar and Hamkuria) of the project area from June 2013 to May 2014. The traps were operated from dusk to dawn and the insect pests and natural enemies caught in the trap were collected, sorted, counted and the numbers were recorded in the data sheet every day. In case of power failure there was an alternative power supply by solar panel.

Achievement/Findings:

During T. Aman 2013 planthoppers incidence differed between two locations. At Washin, population build-up started from the 3^rd week of July and peak incidence occurred during August to September and again in mid-October to mid-November. On the other hand, the natural enemies were trapped from the 2^nd week of June and the peak incidence was in mid-August to the end of September in Dobila. Winged adults of BPH and WBPH were trapped in June-July in Washin. The peak incidence also differed between these locations. At Washin the planthoppers peaked from mid-August to the 1^st week of November. Light trap catches of the natural enemies were almost similar in different weeks from September to November, 2013 in Kanchaneswar except lady bird beetle which happened to be caught in the last week of September, 2013. In Boro 2014 considerable number of winged adult BPH attracted to light trap from the 3^rd week of March at Dobila, Hamkuria and Washin. The peak incidence of BPH was recorded in the 3^rd week of April in the above mentioned locations. Population of WBPH was comparatively lower during this period.
