Effect of Phosphorus and Zinc on the Nutrient Content of Transplanted Aman Rice (br-11) at Two Stages of Growth

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Studies on the combined effects of variable doses of P (Phosphorus) and Zn (Zinc) with fixed doses on N (Nitrogen) and K (Potassium) fertilizers were undertaken to evaluate the response of transplanted Aman Rice (BR-11) .It was revealed that the agronomic characters of the crop were increased with increased doses of P and Zn and also they had pronounced effect on yield and growth. There were maximum response with the effect of highest dose and the application of lower doses showed more or less identical results whereas under control insignificant growth characters were obtained. The contents of nutrients of leaves at the stages of both tillering and flowering varied and the tillering stage showed more nutrient contents than the flowering stage. The relationships of nutrients were established and positive and negative relationships were determined.

Objectives:

To evaluate the effects of variable doses of P and Zn on the growth, yield and nutrients contents in Transplanted Aman Rice (BR11 ) .

Methodology:

The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with twelve treatments and three replications arranged in 36 plots. The size of unit plot was 4m x 3m (12m²). Each plot was surrounded by a ridge (18cm height). The distance between blocks was 100 cm. The total area of the experimental field was 43.8cm x 16cm. (700.8 cm²). The fertilizer application and other agro practices were followed as per general recommendation. The experimental treatment included doses of N, P, K and Zn in the form of urea, triple superphosphate, muriate of potash and zinc sulphate. Three levels of phosphatic fertilizer at the rate of 0, 40 and 60 kg P₂0₅/ha arid four levels of Zn fertilizer at the rate of 0,10,15 and 20 kg/ha were applied with all possible combinations along with fixed doses of 100 kg N/ha and 80 kg K₂0/ha. The important plant characters under different treatments were observed, studied and statistically analysed. The plant characters included height of the plants, number of tillers, the number and length of panicles, grain weight/plot (gm), straw weight (gm). The crop was harvested after 130 days of transplantation. The leave samples at two different stages of growth were collected and composited for chemical analysis. Before chemical analysis, the leaves were sun dried and oven dried at 60⁰C and were ground by grinding machine. The plant extracts were prepared with di-acid mixture of nitric and perchloric acid. The extracts were used for the estimation of nutrient elements such as N, P, K, Na, Ca, Mg and s. The data obtained from chemical analysis and yield contributing characters were tabulated, analysed statistically and represented graphically.

Agronomic characters of the crop were increased with increased doses of P and Zn and also they had pronounced effect on yield end growth. It may be concluded that since zinc played a vital role in accelerating the crop yield and had a direct impact on nutrient status of the leaves and also quality of the crop, it is therefore, necessary to apply Zn fertilizer in the soil deficient of this nutrient along with the basal doses of NPK fertilizers.
