The research was conducted with the Sonali crossbred birds of 8 week age for a period of 28 days during the spring season. The study was aimed to know the effect of supplementation on profitability and to identify the best dietary supplementation foe profitable as well as economic under semi- scavenging condition. A total of 90 birds were weighed and randomly allocated to five supplementary dietary regimes e.g. birds reared as control group under Complete Scavenging (CS) condition, others are supplemented with Balanced Diet (BDS), Broken Rice (BRS), Soybean Crust Supplementation (SCS) and Broken Rice plus Soybean Crust (BRS + SCS) @ 25 g/ bird/ day at starting and with the increment of 5 g / bird/ week. The result reveals that the highest live weight gain (p< 0.01) was obtained from BDS at all ages followed by SCS, BRS, BRS + SCS and CS dietary regime. Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) was also highest on BDS while it was medium on SCS and lowest on BRS & (BRS + SCS) at 9, 11 and 12 weeks of age. On the other hand, under the different supplementary dietary regime the FCR was similar at 10 weeks and significant (P>0.05) difference found at 11 weeks of age among the treatment groups. Moreover, significantly (P>0.01I) highest performance index and returns calculated for BDS compare to other dietary regimes. However, balanced diet supplementation (BDS), (40% of their total estimated requirement) found more profitable as well as beneficial which yielded better quantitative performance than that of other dietary supplemented groups. Therefore, it many be concluded that balanced dietary supplementation at about 45 g / bird/ day obtain maximum production performance and profitability under semi- scavenging condition.

1. To estimate the profitability of rearing Sonali chicken feeding different supplements under semi-scavenging system,

2.  To identify the best supplement for economic as well as profitable rearing of the birds under semi- scavenging condition.

Fifteen farmers were selected from 3 villages, namely Char Jabber, Char Jubla and the West Char Jabbar of "Noakhali" Sadar Upazila, one of the project sites of the SLDP- 2 project of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS). A total of 90 birds of 8 weeks of age purchased from the chick rearers of the project were distributed randomly among the selected farmers (15), three farmers each having 6 birds (3 x 6= 18) were considered the replication of each of the dietary treatments of Balanced Dietary Supplementation (BDS), Broken Rice Supplementation (BRS), Soybean Crust supplementation (SCS), mixed supplementation with (BRS + SCS) and a group of three farmers reared their birds under scavenging system without any supplementation; termed as the control. Data were kept and calculated during the experiment Live weight (g): Initial and weekly; so, live weight gain calculated by deducting initial weight from final weight. Feed intake (g): Weekly / bird and cumulative feed intake. Feed conversion efficiency: Calculated as the ratio of feed intake (g) and live weight gain (g). Survivability (%): No. of live birds at the end of experiment divided by the number of initial birds multiplied by 100. Production cost: Calculated by the cost of chicks, feeds, vaccines and medicine. Performance Index (%): Calculated from the live weight (kg) divided by feed conversion efficiency whole multiplied by 100. The experiment was conducted the Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Data collected and calculated for different variable were subjected to analysis of variance in according with the principles and procedures of a Completely Randomized Design. Least Significant Difference (LSD) was calculated to compare variations between treatments where ANOVA showed significant differences.

Considering the above discussions, it may be concluded that BDS is more profitable than those of other dietary supplementations. This dietary regime had reduced feed cost as well as improved the over all performance of the birds. However, it would be an attractive supplementary regime in semi- scavenging system and the common raisers may adopt the balanced dietary supplementation to the birds in semi-scavenging system of rearing for optimum production and maximize profitability.
