Influence of Acacia Pod and Soybean Meal on Ruminal Fermentation Pattern and on Serum Mineral Status in Local Bull Calves

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted with 15 local non-descript bull calves to study the effect of Acacia pod and Soybean meal on rumen pH, NH a -N and VFA concentrations and on serum mineral status. Rumen fluid was analyzed for Zn, Cu. Na, K and P. The pH values were not affected and there were no significant changes in NHa-N and VFA concentrations among the treatment groups. Also there was no appreciable change in serum minerals except sodium which showed a decreasing trend among treatment groups with successive c ollec tions Paddy straw was treated with urea at 5% level and was kept in silo pit for12 days. Objectives:

TO STUDY THE INFLUENCE OF ACACIA POD AND SOYBEAN MEAL ON RUMINAL FERMENTATION PATTERN AND ON SERUM MINERAL STATUS IN LOCAL BULL CALVES

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the Bangladesh Agricultural University Animal Nutrition Shed. A feeding trial was conducted for a period of 86 days. Fifteen growing local bull calves of about 1 year and 6 months age and of aame health condition were randomly divided into 5 different treatment gro ups of 3 each. The 5 different treat ment groups were assigned to 5 diffe rent iso-nitrogenous rations denoted by A,B,C,D, & E, where 'E' was control.
