Evaluation of Tilling Quality of Tractor-tillage Implements in Dry Land Preparation

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

This paper summarizes the procedures for the determination of of tilling indices such as stability of tillage implements in furrows, coverage of weeds and other crop residues, height of furrow-ridges and crushing of furrow slices during land preparation in dry soil condition. Analysis of the experimental results showed that the tilling indices as obtained in dry land preparation satisfied the agro technical requirements.

Objectives:

In ploughing and harrowing and the effect of working speed of tractor-tillage implements upon the stability of tilling depth , coverage of weeds, height of furrow ridges and crushing of furrow slices

Methodology:

For the evaluation of tilling quality a farm tractor T Z- 4 K - 14 of 10 k W nominal rating was equipped with a mouldboard plough PON - 25 and a harrow 5 - K N - 85 having the constructional widths 25 cm and 85 cm respectively for the accomplishment of the tillage operation in a field of 30 X 18 m.

Achievement/Findings:

From the experimental investigations it was evident that with the increase of the working speed of tractor, the height of furrow ridges decreased gradually. It was clear that with the increased working speed, the value of arithmetic mean (a), standard deviation and coefficient of variaton (-CV) for height of furrow-ridges in ploughing and harrowing decreased. The decrease of the height of furrow ridges explains the fact that with the increased working speed good crushing of furrow slices occurred and the smaller particles filled up the space between the furrow-ridges and hence the soil surface gradually became Leveled. Crushing of furrow slices over the experimental plot was determined after each successive of tillage operation. The crushing of furrow slices increased with the increase of working speed of tractor. It is seen that with the increased working speed, percent of fraction for soil particle of sizes 25 cm and above decreased gradually. But at the working speed of 1.60 m/s, the percent of fraction for the soil particle of sizes below 15 cm increased. The results for harrowing also show that with the increased working speed of tractor ranging from 0.55 to 1.60 m/s, the quantity of soil particle of sizes below 2.50 cm increased and particle of sizes 7.5 cm and above decreased.
