An experiment was conducted with four high yielding rice varieties viz., Binadhan-5, Binadhan-6 Iratom-24 and Binadhan-7 at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh during December 2009 to May 2010 to assess the effects of different levels of temperature on germination and to find out optimum temperature for better germination. One hundred seeds of each variety were soaked in a Petridis. Five temperature treatments viz., 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40oC were imposed in plant growth chamber. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with three replications. After 5 days of treatment imposition germination percentage was recorded. The highest germination was observed at 30oC. The lowest germination percentage was found at 20oC. Iratom-24 showed the highest germination percentage. The highest germination percentage was also observed in Iratom-24 at 30oC.

The objectives of the study were to assess the effects of different levels of temperature on germination of high yielding rice varieties and to find out optimum temperature for better germination. 

 An experiment was conducted with four high yielding rice varieties viz., Binadhan-5, Binadhan-6 Iratom-24 and Binadhan-7 at Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh during December 2009 to May 2010. One hundred seeds of each variety were soaked in a Petridis. Five temperature treatments viz., 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40oC were imposed in plant growth chamber. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with three replications. After 5 days of treatment imposition germination percentage was recorded. The collected data were analyzed statistically following two factor experimental design of CDR by MSTAT computer packages (Freed 1992). The mean differences among the treatments were calculated with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test.

The highest germination of high yielding rice varieties was observed at 30oC. The lowest germination percentage was found at 20oC. Among the varieties, Iratom-24 showed the highest germination percentage. The highest germination percentage was also observed in Iratom-24 at 30oC.
