Response of Mungbean Varieties to Fertilizers

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted to investigate into the effect of variety and fertilizer on morphological characters, yield attributes and yield of summer mungbean. The experiment comprised three varieties viz., BARImung-2, BARImung-5 and BINAmung-6 and three fertilizer combination viz., control (No fertilizer, F₀), Biofertilizer with recommended doses of TSP and MP (F₁) and recommended doses of urea, TSP and MP (F₂),. Results revealed that variety and fertilizer had significant effect on the studied crop characters and seed yield. The variety BARImung-2 showed superiority in relation to plant height, number of branches and effective pods plant^-1, seeds pod^-1 compared to other two varieties which resulted the highest seed yield both per plant and per hectare. Among the fertilizers, application of biofertilizers with TSP and MP showed superiority in relation to plant height, straw yield, number of branches and effective pods plant^-1 compared to other fertilizer treatments which resulting the highest seed yield both per plant and per hectare of all three varieties. For treatment combination, the fertilizer treatment of F₁ (biofertilizer with TSP and MP) with any variety performed the best in respect of growth, yield attributes and yield in mungbean.

Objectives:

To investigate the effect of fertilizers on crop characters, yield attributes and yield of three mungbean varieties.

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted at the Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture, Mymensingh during the period from March to May 2009 to investigate the effect of fertilizers on crop characters, yield attributes and yield of mungbean varieties. The experiment comprised of three fertilizer combination viz., control (No fertilizer, F₀), Biofertilizer with recommended doses of TSP and MP (F₁) and recommended doses of urea, TSP and MP (F₂), and three varieties viz., BARImung-2, BARImung-5 and BINAmung-6. The experiment was laid out in two factors randomized complete block design with three replications where variety placed in the main plot and fertilizer placed in sub-plot. Data on plant characters were recorded from the five plants of each replication except seed and straw yield. The collected data were analyzed statistically.
