A field experiment was conducted during the period from November 2009 to March 2010 to investigate some morpho-physiological and reproductive characters, yield attributes and fruit yield in twelve tomato genotypes. They were CLN 2777, CLN 2778, CLN 2779, CLN 2780, CLN 2460, CLN 2498, CLN 2764, CLN 2768, CLN 2413, CLN 2414, Binatomato-4 and Binatomato-5. Results revealed that there were significant genotypic differences in respect of all parameters. In general, high yielding genotypes showed superior performance in morpho-physiological characters, harvesting duration, biochemical parameters and yield contributing characters compared to low yielding ones. Reproductive characters had no relation with fruit yield in tomato. The genotypes, CLN 2777, CLN 2779 and CLN 2780 produced higher fruit yield with the highest being in CLN 2780 due to its superiority in respect of morpho-physiological, biochemical and larger fruit sizes. In contrast, CLN 2414 and CLN 2413 produced the lower fruit yield due to poor performance in growth characters and smaller size of fruits. However, CLN 2498 produced heart shape medium size fruits having nipple at the tip which was the distinct than the others. The genotypes, CLN 2779 and CLN 2780 may be released as variety for commercial cultivation after confirmation of their yield performance by zonal yield trials.

To assess the performances of ten tomato lines along with two local improved varieties on the basis of morpho-physiological features and yield attributes. To select better genotypes based on yield performance and other superior characters; and to select genotype (s) with good keeping quality and higher Vit-C content.

The experiment was carried out at the Field Laboratory, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, during the period from 04  November 2009 to 31 March 2010. The experiment consisted of ten exotic tomato genotypes along with two check varieties. They were CLN 2777, CLN 2778, CLN 2779, CLN 2780, CLN 2460, CLN 2498, CLN 2764, CLN 2768, CLN 2413, CLN 2414, BINAtomato-4 (check) and BINAtomato-5 (check). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Urea, triple super phosphate (TSP), muriate of potash (MP), gypsum and cowdung were applied at the rate of 280, 250, 180, 80 and 10000 kg ha-1, respectively (BARC, 2005). Total amount of TSP, MP, gypsum and cowdung were applied as basal doses during final land preparation. Half of urea was applied as top dress at 21 days after transplanting and rest half was applied at 45 days after transplanting. The 25-day old seedlings were transplanted in the experimental plot on 20 November 2009. Unit plot size was 3.5 m x 4.0 m. Plant spacing was 50 cm for plant to plant and line to line distance. Recommended cultural practices were followed for plant growth and development. Photosynthesis, chlorophyll, nitrate reductase, total sugar were determined at 55-60 DAT. At harvest, morphophysiological, phenological, reproductive, yield and yield contributing characters were recorded. The collected data were analyzed statistically.

The genotypes viz., CLN 2777, CLN 2779 and CLN 2780 performed good regarding morpho-physiological characters, biochemical, yield contributing characters and yield with being the best in CLN 2780. The genotype, CLN 2780 performed the best in regard to fruit yield with large apple shape fruits.  Six genotypes (CLN 2780, CLN 2460, CLN 2498, CLN 2768, Binatomato-4 and Binatomato-5) could be stored in room temperature for 27-29 days without deterioting the quality during winter season. Two genotypes viz., CLN 2413 and CLN 2414 contained higher Vit-C in fruits with lower fruit yield performance.
