Prey-predator Relationships Among Mustard Aphid and Their Predators

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A field experiment was conducted with ten different mustard varieties during rabi season to determine the prey-predator relationship between mustard aphids, Lipaphis erysimi ( Kalt ) and their predators. M-91, Sonali and TS-72 varieties were found more susceptible to aphids. At pod formation stage highly significant infestation was recorded. Abundance of mustard aphids showed highest itive corretation with lady bird beetle. P81h coeffci ient analyttis reveals that lady bird'beetle had the m.ximum dkect effect on aphid abundance tollowed by spider. Step-up-wise regression equations showed the highest relative influence of lady bird beetles for their predatory efficacy and aphids followed by spider.

Objectives:

To find out the least susceptible varieties of mustard and interrelationship between aphids and their predators.

Methodology:

Ten different varieties of mustard namely, Sonali, Tori-7, TS-72, Rai-5, Daulat, M-287, Bina-1, Bina-3, Sam pad and M-91 were grown in factorial randomized block experiment with three replications, where each block was divided into 10 plots at the Bangladesh Agricultural University farm. Mymensingh during the rabi season. The plot size was 4.0 m X 2.5 m and plants were spaced at 30 em. Aphids were collected at four different dates viz. 25 days after sowing 35 DAS, flowering and pod formation equations. . Mustard aphids were considered as resultant variable.
