Effect of Ronstar on Weed Management, Yield and Nutrient Uptake by Rice

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of ronstar on weed management, growth, yield and nutrient uptake by rice. Six different doses of ronstar viz. 0.00, 1.50, 1.75, 2.00, 2.25 l/ha were used. Ronstar significantly reduced weed infestation and increased the yield and nutrient uptake by rice irrespective of the doses used. Out of the doses, ronstar 2.00 l/ha was found most effective with respect to all the parameters studied.

Objectives:

To study the effect of ronstar on weed control, yield and nutrient uptake by rice.

Methodology:

The study was conducted on a non calcarious dark grey flood plain sandy loam soil using BR2 rice (Mala) as a test crop. The soil had pH (1 :2) 6.8, total N 0.12% available P (Olsen method) 19 ppm, exchangeable K (Ammonium acetate) 0.36 m.e./100g, available S (0.15% CaCl₂) 10 ppm, organic carbon 0.8% and organic matter 1.38%. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with three replications. The unit plot size was 4m x 2.5m. The spacing between plot to plot, block to block and around the field was 1m in all the cases.Ronstar was applied after 8 days of transplanting @ 0, 1.50, 1.75 , 2 .00, 2 .25 and1/ha in the experimental plots.The plots were fertilized with 62 kg N, 44 kg P₂0₅ and 24 kg K₂0 per hectare using urea, triple super phosphate and muriate of potash respectively. Total quantity of P, K and 1/3 of N were applied at the time of final land preparation. Second and third installments of N were applied after 25 and 45 days of transplanting. lntercultural operations except weeding were done uniformly as and when necessary. The crop was harvested 119 days after transplanting and both grain and straw were subsequently threshed and cleaned. The samples were then oven dried at 60°C and digested in di-acid mixture. Total N, P and K content were determined following classical methods. Ca and Mg by EDTA method. Nutrient uptake was calculated by multiplying the nutrient content with the corresponding yield expressed in kg/ha. The data were analysed statistically and the means were adjudged by DMRT.

Achievement/Findings:

A general increase in the yield attributes, grain and straw yield and nutrient uptake by rice seemed to be associated with the significant control of weeds by the application of ronstar and the dose of ronstar 2.00 l/ha proved to be the most effective.
