Investigation Into the Effect of Broadcast Aman Rice Mixed -cropping

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Different combination of B. Aus and B. Aman rice ( Oryza sativa L.) were compared to corresponding monocrops in an experiment conducted at the Farming Systems Resea:ch (FSR) Site, Palima, Tangail during the kharif season of 1990. Monoculture aus and aman consisted of 100% seed rate. Four different seeding ratios consisting Aus 70%+ Aman 46%; Aus 100%+Aman 50%; Aus 50%+ Aman 100% and Aus 70%+ Aman 30% were used in this experiment. The combi nation of aus 70%+ Aman 45% out yielded all the mixed cropping combination. This treatment gave the highest net return (Tk 7151.75/ha. and benefit cost ratio (1.96). The yield was found comparatively lower in aus rice due to sudden entrance of water in the field. The highest productivity advantage and ma xi mum monetary returns resulted from the combination of aus 70%+ a man 45%. Total rice yield of mixed crop was higher (1630 kg/ha) than the.sole aus rice (1130 kg/ha) and sole aman rice (1370 kg/he) respectively.

Objectives:

To identify the appropriate seeding ratio for higher yield and economic return.

Methodology:

The experiment was carried out during kharif season of 1990 at the FSR site,Pailma, Tangail in Sonata!a Dhamrai soil series of medium low land. Different treatments of rice e. g., sole aus; sole aman; Aus 50% +Am!Jr;t 100%; Aus 70% +A man 45%; Aus 100% +Aman 50% and Aus 70%+Aman •ao%were sown each in 8 )( 4m• plot with three replications in randomized com/ plete block d.esign. The seeds werebroadcasted on April 7,1990 with the seed rate of 100 and 80 kg/ha for sole aus and aman respectively. In case of broadcast aus the variety used was ''Hashikafmi" whereas it was •'Cha40-20 NPK kg/ha in the form of urea, triple super phosphate and muriate of potash, respectively. The land was well prepared by six ploughing follo wed by laddering. Half of the urea and full P and K were applied as basal and rest half of urea was applied as top dress after 30 days of sowing. Weed ing was done as and when necessary. Aus rice was harveSted on 10th July,0 and that of aman rice on 20thNovember, 1990. Data on y ield end other agromic characters were recorded.
