Selection of Variables Associated with Communication Fidelity in Relation to Modern Rice Production Programme

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The purpose of the study was to select the factors. which were expected to be associated with communication fidelity in relation to modern varieties of transplanted Aman rice cultivation. It was clone based on pooled consensus of different categories of connected persons. With the help of thorough review of literature a list of possible factors pertaining to each element of the communication process was prepared. These factors were sent to 1 35 Judges throughout Bangladesh and were responded by 85 judges. Thus, 70 factors were collected and retained 60 factors in the list. These 60 factors were grouped into four: (i) communicator. ( ii ) message, (iii) channel and (iv) receiver. To determine the relative importance of the 60 factors. a "force choice-nine-point group ranking'' technique (Q-sort) was used. The pooled judgment of all the four categories of judges depict that out of 60 factors. 26 were important in relation to communication fidelity based on average median value of 5.0 or above. Considering the coefficient of variation with lowest quartile deviation, only 21 factors in descending order or importance were: suitability of messages. profitability of messages, receivers• social participation, communicators' communication skill, communicators' knowledge level, receivers' risk orientation, print media use, receivers' innovations, group contact, personal localite, communicators' credibility, receives' family size, receivers' economic status, electronic media u se. receivers' age. receivers' family education, receivers' credit receipt. individual contact. receivers education. understandability of messages and agricultural fair. Of these selected factors, the highest importance was attached to the receivers' factors while channel. message and communicator factors were the second. third and fourth important set of factors. respectively. Out of the these 21 selected factors, three belonged to communicator. three to message, six to channel and nine to receiver.
