Effect of Gaba and Abt Rooting Powder on Growth and Yield Attributes of Mungbean

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was carried out at Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, from February to June 2004 to investigate the effect of GABA at 0.5, 1.0 and 2.o mgL^-1 and ABT-6 at 10, 20 eurd 30 mg L^-1 on growth, yield and yield attributes of Binamoog-5. GABA and ABT-6 was sprayed to the crop plants at 30 DAS. Results of the experiment revealed that both the PGRs had significant effect on morphological, physiological, yield and yield attributes of mungbean. The effect of ABT-6 was better than the GABA in the present experiment. ABT-6 at 30 mg L^-l significantly increased plant height, root length, number of branches plant^-1, number of leaves plant^-1, leaf area plant^-1, total dry matter, leaf area index, number of pods plant^-1, pod length, number of seeds plant^-1, dry weight of pods plant^-l,seed yield ha^-l and harvest index over other treatments and control. The GABA at 1.0 mg L^-1 was similarly effective for enhancing those growth and yield attributes of mungbean. However, 100-seed weight was not affected by the PGRs. ABT-6 at 30 mg L-^l and GABA at 1.0 mg L^-1 increased seed yield by 16.33% and 15.21% respectively compared to that in control.

Objectives:

To study the effect of GABA and ABT-6 on growth and yield attributes of mungbean, to determine the optimum dose of these two PGRs and to select more effective PGR.

Methodology:

In most of the cases, growth and yield of sesame were increased with increasing of concentration of NAA. Most of the cases NAA at 200 ppm concentration was found to be the best for plant height, number of leaves plant^-1, number of flowers plant^-1, number of capsules plant^-1, number of seeds capsule^-1 and yield (t/ha). Therefore, the NAA at 200 ppm as seed treatment + foliar spray has positive regulatory effect on morphological growth, yield and yield contributing attributes of sesame. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design with three replications. The size of each plot was 1m × 1m. A space of 1 m and 0.75 m were left between the blocks and plots, respectively. Fertilizers were applied 30, 100 and 58 kg ha^-1of urea, TSP and MP, respectively. The seeds of sesame were sown on February 29, 2004. The distance between rows and plant to plant was maintained 30 cm and 15 cm, respectively. PGR was applied in the form of fine foliar sprays by hand sprayers. The spraying was done at 30 DAS. Crop sampling was done at 40, 60 and 95 DAS. Data on morpho-physiological attributes and yield were recorded. Analysis of variance was done following randomized complete block design with the help of computer package MSTAT-C (Russell, 1986). The mean difference among the treatment was tested with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (Gomez and Gomez, 1984).
