Evaluation of Indigenous Ber Genotype at Ars, Pahartali, Chittagong

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

One ber genotype namely ZM Pah-001 was collected and evaluated at the Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali, Chittagong during 2013-2014. The genotypes produced flower in August-September and the fruits are harvested during February to March. Individual fruit weight was 16.07 g. The length and breadth of the fruit was 1.7 – 1.6 cm, respectively. The edible portion was recorded 93.59%. The fruits per plant as well as yield per plant was 2500 and 40 kg, respectively during the studied year. Total soluble solid was 13.50 %. Taste was very good.

Objectives:

To study the performance of local promising ber genotypes under field condition of Pahartali, Chittagong
Evaluate, characterized and documented for future utilization
To developed more ber variety

Methodology:

To fulfill the objective of the experiment, an extensive survey was made and collected one outstanding genotype of ber, multiplied vegetatively onto an older ber plant at Agricultural Research Station, Pahartali, Chittagong during September 2011. Manures and fertilizers were applied @ 15 kg Cowdung, 350 gm Urea, 300 g TSP and 300 g MP per plant. The fertilizers were applied in two installments in a year. Intercultural operations like weeding, irrigations were done when necessary. Data were taken on flowering time, harvesting time, fruit quality, yield and yield contributing characters.

Achievement/Findings:

Based on size, edible portion, fruit yield and organoleptic taste the evaluated ber genotype was found promising and may be used as future breeding program as well as released as a variety.
