Study on Yield Performace of Ten Mungbean Genotypes at Magura Sub-station of BINA

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experimental treatment comprised of ten genotypes of mungbean viz., N₄J-207, N₄J-210, N₂M-102. E₁J-603, E₁J-608, E2M-51l, E₄I-913, Binamoog-5, Binamoog-7 and BARI mung-5. Among the genotypes, last three were widely cultivated varieties and the rest seven were advanced mutants. The results indicated that the plant height, number of branches plant^-1. TDM plant^-1, number of pods plant^-1, pod length, number of seeds plant^-1, 1000-seed weight, seed yield plant^-1, seed yield m^-2 and harvest index varied significantly among the genotypes. It was observed that the highest plant height (45.53 cm) and maximum number of branches (9.7-5) were produced by the genotype E₁J-603, but maximum number of pods plant^-1 (25.40) and number of seeds plant^-1 (176.00) were produced by the genotype N₄J-207. The genotype BARI mung-5 produced the highest pod length (7.87 cm) and 1000-seed weight (47.00g). Maximum total dry matter (20.96g) was produced by the genotype N₄M-402 but the genotype N₄J-207 produced maximum seed yield/plant (6.69g). The mutant E₁J-603 produced the highest seed yield m^-2 (82.35 g). But harvest index was maximum (47.67%) in the mutant N₄J-207. The mutant E₁J-603 may be released after few trials in farmers’ field for commercial cultivation.

Objectives:

To assess the performance of 10 promising genotypes with respect to yield and yield component and to select better genotype.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at Magura sub-station of Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), with ten genotypes of mungbean viz., N₄J-207, N₄J-210, N₂M-102, E₁J-603, E₁J-608, E₂M-51l, E₄I-913, Binamoog-5, Binamoog-7 and BARI mung-5 during 15 February to 17 May 2006. Among the genotypes, last three were widely cultivated varieties and the rest seven were advanced mutants. The experiment was conducted in RCBD with three replications. The size of each plot was 4m × 3m. Each plot was fertilized 30 g, 60 g, 36 g of N, P₂O₅ and K₂O, respectively through urea, TSP and MP. The seeds of mungbean were sown on February 15, 2006. The distance between rows and plant to plant was maintained 30 cm and 3 cm, respectively. Crop sampling was done at 75 DAS and maturity. Data on morpho-physiological attributes and yield were recorded. Analysis of variance was done following randomized complete block design with the help of computer package MSTAT-C (Russell, 1986). The mean difference among the treatment was tested with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (Gomez and Gomez, 1984).
