Growth Yield and Biochemical Parameters of Some Grasspea Genotypes

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

A pot experiment was conducted to evaluate growth and yield of four grasspea genotypes (Binakhelasari-1, GPM-W, and GPM-3W) at the pot yard of the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, from November 2005 to March 2006. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data were collected at 60, 70, 80, 90 days after sowing (DAS) and at maturity. The result demonstrated differences among genotypes with respect to some morphological characters and yield components. The grasspea genotypes showed the highest plant height at 80 DAS and thereafter it did not increase significantly. Number of branches and leave area per plant were the maximum at 70 DAS. Leaf dry weight was the maximum at 70 DAS and thereafter it did not vary significantly. The grasspea genotypes had the highest total dry matter per plant at maturity. The genotype GPM-1W showed superiority in all respect while GPM-2W ranked second and other two genotypes showed intermediate in growth and yield performance.

Objectives:

The objectives were to study the growth and yield performance of four grasspea genotypes and to find out the most promising one.

Methodology:

A pot experiment was conducted with four grasspea genotypes (Binakhelasari-1, GPM-W, and GPM-3W) at the pot yard of the Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Mymensingh, from 30 November 2005 to 9 March 2006. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Data were collected at 60, 70, 80, 90 days after sowing (DAS) and at maturity. Each pot contained 9 kg of soil collected from BINA farm. Fertilizers Urea 0.315 g pot^-1, TSP 0.585 g pot^-1 and MP 0.405 g pot^-1 at the rate of 35 kg N ha^-1, 65 kg P₂O₅ ha^-1and 45 kg K₂O ha^-1were applied. Seeds of grasspea genotypes were sown on 31 November 2005. Data on morpho-physiological, yield attributes and yield were recorded. The collected data were analyzed statistically following two factor experiment in RCBD with the help of MSTAT computer packages (Russell, 1986). The mean values of the treatments were adjudged by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (Gomez and Gomez, 1984).
