Genetic Control of Chromosome Pairing in Polyploid Wheat

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The mechanism of meiotic chromosome pairing in higher organisms is of the utmost significance to the cytogenesis. The most impressive way of understanding the process of pairing is the study of genetic control of various plant and animal species much more has been known about the genetic system that regulate the meiotic pairing in polyploid wheat. A brief outline of the information available in genetic control of chromosome pairing in bread wheat have been reviewed in this article. Genes involved in this mechanism have been grouped into two categories namely: pairing suppressors and pairing promotars. It is also shown that in wheat the activity of the pairing regulating genes is interrupted by the induced mutants like ph la. ph tb, etc.
