Different transferrin (β-globulin) polymorphism exists in the blood-sera of domestic animals. Until recently five transferrin alleles have been reported in cattle but In sheep as many as fifteen transferrin alleles were demonstrated. The review of literature revealed that transferinn polymorphism carry genetic characters  and some of  these are associated with production traits in animals particularly in cattle and sheep. The transferrin genotype may therefore, be choiced as an index in modern breeding practice  for the development of livestock population.
