Nitrogen Fertilization in Rice Cv. Br10 After Green Manuring

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

An experiment was conducted with five levels of nitrogen such as O. 20.4 .60 and 80 kg/ha to see the performance of BR10 aman rice in green manured plots. It was found that grain yield was highest from 60 kg N/ha after green manuring. However, 40 kg N /ha was as effective as the recommended rate of 80 kg N/ha for grain yield. The maximum marginal rate of return was with 40 kg N/ha.

Objectives:

To see the effect of different levels of nitrogenous fertilizers on aman rice in a field which was previously green manured with Sesbania aculeata.

Methodology:

An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field Laboratory, BAU, Mymensingh from July to November, 1984. Soil samples were collected for laboratory analysis from different plots before sowing G. M. crop and after decomposition of green manure prior to transplanting. Standard laboratorv methods were followed for soil chemical analysis. The rice cultivar BR10 was grown under O. 20. 40. 60 and 8O kg N/ha. A constant dose of P₂0₅ and K₂O at the rate of 60 and 40 kg/ha was applied in all plots. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with five replications The unit plot size was 4m x 2.5m. Achievement/Findings:

Grain yield was highest from 60 kg N/ha after green manuring. Forty kg N/ha was as effective as 80 kg N/ha for grain yield i.e. green manure could reduce the amount of nitrogen fertilizer to half of the recommended dose (80 kg N/ha).
