Abstract/ Executive Summary:

Fruit characteristics of thirteen custard apple germplasm (AS Bin-001 to AS Bin-013) were studied in the laboratory of the Fruit Research Station, BARI, Binodpur, Rajshahi during the fruiting season (June - September) of 2013 and 2014. Wide variation was observed among the accessions in respect of fruit characteristics. The weight of fruit varied from 68.40 g to 150.00 g. The highest fruit weight (150.00 g) was observed in AS Bin-004 followed by AS Bin-011 (122.50 g), AS Bin-010 (121.00 g), AS Bin-012 (116.20 g) and AS Bin-002 (115.00 g), while the lowest fruit weight was noted in AS Bin-006 (68.4o g). The skin weight was noticed the highest (68.83 g) in AS Bin-004 followed by AS Bin-002 (56.40 g), AS Bin-007 (56.40 g) and AS Bin-010 (56.30 g), whereas the lowest (29.60 g) in AS Bin-006. The highest TSS content (25%) was recorded in AS Bin-002, in contrast the lowest (18%) TSS was found in AS Bin-006 & AS Bin-009. Number of flack per fruit renged from 59.20 (AS Bin-006) to117.66 (AS Bin-006). Among the germplasm AS Bin-006 contained minimum seeds (15.00) and AS Bin-004 contained maximum (42.83). The fruit shape varied from heart to roundish.

Objectives:

To study the performance of custard apple germplasm at Rajshahi region
To evaluate, characterized and documented the custard apple germplasm for improvement
To select superior custard apple germplam in respect to yield and fruit quality for developed as varieties for Rajshahi region.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted at the laboratory of the Fruit Research Station, BARI, Binodpur, Rajshahi during June 2013 to September 2014. With the view of selection of superior custard apple germplasm. Thirteen germplasm of custard apple (AS Bin-001 to AS Bin-013) were selected from different places of Rajshahi through peritoneal contact and matured fruits were collected. Randomly selected five fruits of each germplasm were studied for fruit characteristics in the laboratory of ARS, Binodpur, Rajshahi. The data on fruit characteristics viz. time of harvesting, harvest duration, number of fruits/plant, fruit weight (g), fruit length (cm), fruit breadth (cm), rind weight (g), 100- flake wt. (g), flake/fruit (no.), seed weight (g), edible portion (%), TSS (%), yield/plant (kg), shape of fruit, fruit color at ripen, flake color, seed color and organoleptic taste were recorded and the mean data were calculated for statistical analysis

Achievement/Findings:

Considering the above study the germplasm AS Bin-004, AS Bin-011, AS Bin-012 and AS Bin-002 showed better performance in terms of fruit weight, flack/fruit, seed number and TSS content of fruits and might be selected for future use.
