Effect of Degassed Manure on Ion-uptake at Different Stages of Growth of Rice

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The combined effects of chemical fertilizers and different organic manure were studied on the growth and yield of rice. variety IR-8 and minerals content at tillering and booting stages in Boro season. The organic manure applied were degassed manure ( anaerobically digested slurry). cowdung and compost @ 0.5 tons/ha with supplemental N, P and K fertilizers. Organic manure with or without N P K fertilizers increased the yield and the degassed manure at the dose of 5 tons/ha accelerated the yield in comparison to other manure. The maximum accumulation of N and P was found at Tillering stage and K at booting stage under the treatment of degassed manure at to tons/ha. A synergestic relationship was observed between N and P, N and K at tillering stage and N and P at booting stage. An inverse relationship was observed between %N and R-(cations sum: anions sum) in these stages of growth Which fit statistically to quadratic curves.

Objectives:

To study the effect at degassed (anaerobically digssted slurry) manure as compared to traditionally prepared compost and cowdung manures in combination with supplemental NPK fertilizers on the growth, mineral composition and yield of rice, variety IR-8.

Methodology:

The experiment was conducted on a typical rice growing field of the Bangladesh Agricultural University Farm, Mymensingh to study the effect of degassed manure, after the recovery of bio gas, compost and cowdunq with recommended doses of NPK fertilizers on IR-8 in Bora season. The rate of application of degassed manure cowdunq and compost was 0,5 and 10 ton /ha each and that of N,P and K was 184, 184 and 92 Kg/ha respectively in the form of Urea, T.S.P. and Muriate of Potash. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with 4 replications and nine treatments. Seedlings of 30 days old were transplanted and the crop was harvested after 132 days of transplantation. The harvest area was 4,3 X 2.7 meters. The mechanical and chemical compositions of the soil upto the depth of 22 5 cm were on an average; sand = 16.67%, silt = 67.20%, total nitrogen = O.097% P₂0₅=0.11%, K₂O=0.195%, organic matter= 1,23% and the pH was 7.075. All the cultural operations were done according to necessity.

Achievement/Findings:

The results obtained on the yield and yield contributing characters of IR-8 have been found to be statistically in- significant, except the effect of compost manure at the rate of 5 tons/he which was significantly superior to degassed manure at 10 tons/ha in respect of straw yield/plot.
