The Changes of Lipo-protein Complex Values of Blood Serum of Chicken at Different Technologies of Rearing and Their Subsequent Performances in Cages

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

The experiment was carried out to study the changes of lipo- protein complex values of blood serum of pullets and hens as an indication of their responses to different technologies of rearing (deep Jitter and cages) in relation to their subsequent performances in cages. The average values of lipo-protein complex estimated during the period of rearing showed an increasing trend from the lowest value at 9 weeks of age to the highest value at 15 weeks of age. The average values of Iipo-protein complex were higher in pullets reared in cages as compared to the values estimated in pullets reared on deep litter. From the results estimated during the period of egg production it is evident that at the beginning of production of the age of 5.5 to 11.5 months the average lipo-protein complex values increased of its highest level and then showed decreasing trend at the age of 13.5 months upto the end of egg production. It is also observed that the age of hens and technology of rearing pullets had significant effect on the variability of lipo-protein complex values. The lipo-protein complex values have a positive correlation with egg weight, albumen weight, yolk weight, shell weight and shell thickness. A negative correlation was found between Iipo-protein complex values and egg production.

Methodology:

The experiment Was carried out with the pullets of laying hybrid "Thaver Star- cross 288" reared on deep litter and in cages during the period of growing and in the period of their subsequent performances in cages to study the changes of lipo-protein complex values of their blood serum using as an indicator of their responses to different technologies of rearing (deep litter and cages). In the period of laying the pullets of house No.1 (deep litter) and house No. 2 (cages) were transferred to the laying houses No.3 and 4 with cages respectively. The experiment was started with the growing pullets at the age of 9 weeks and with hens at the age of 5.5 months and was continued upto the end of growing and laying periods. The samples of blood were collected from the wing veins of pullets and laying hens at the interval of three weeks and 2 months respectively. 36 samples of blood were collected randomly in test tubes each time from the population. The blood serum was made with the help of a contrifugal machine and was stored in refrigerator for some time. It is generally known that the Iipo-. protein complex values depend on the optically active substances of the blood serum. With regard to the fact that the light refractive index of lipo-protein complex is influenced primarily by the protein and hence the refractometer is used for the quantitative determination of the protein of blood serum.

Achievement/Findings:

The lipo-protein complex values have a positive correlation with egg weight, albumen weight, yolk weight and shell weight, but not significant except shell thickness which has positive significant correlation with the lipo-protein complex value. The correlation of lipo-protein complex values with other factors are negative. A negative correlation was also found between the estimated lipo-protein complex values and egg production. On the basis of investigated results it can be concluded that the changes in internal organisms of birds influenced by the different technologies of rearing during the period of growing and by their subsequent performance in cages can be detected with the help of lipo- protein complex values of blood serum of pullets and hens
