An Economic Design of a Pump House for a Deep Tube-well in Bangladesh

Abstract/ Executive Summary:

In this investigation, the design aspects of the deep tube. well pump house in Bangladesh were reviewed and found that although there were provision for a pump and other essentials but there was no room for the operator of the pump who could also act as a safeguard for the spare parts and other essentials inside the pump house. The proposed pump house, having 16.73 squaremeter in plinth area, includes a room for the operator. The study reveals that Tk= 10.920/50 (Taka ten thousand nine hundred twenty and paisa fifty only) is required for the construction of the proposed masonry pump house.

Objectives:

To act the pump house as a safe-guard of the pump, fuel and other spare- parts of the pump.
To develop a low cost house much better to the existing one.
To make a room for the operator, so that pump assemble lie always under a special care.

Methodology:

The following locally available materials may be used in the construction of the proposed structures, a) Sand (fineness modulus 2), b) Portland cement, C) 1st class brick with standard size. i;e; 240m in length, 11 cm in breadth and 7 cm in height. d) Brick-aggregates whose loose and dense unit weights were 0.96 gm/cms and 1.04 gm/cm³ respectively. e) Teak wood, . f) C. J, Sheet. g) Hook, nuts. bolts, screws, wires. h) Paints. The proposed dimension of the pump house 457 cm in length and 366cm in breadth indicating operator's room, pump seat, pipe and other sectional position of construction. As per ACI code specifications, design of different parts of the pump house was made. Bricks and brick-aggregates are in use for a long time in the construction as foundation for the pumps in Bangladesh. No research has yet been carried out to investigate their suitability and no report is available about their performances. However. experience has shown that their use as foundations are generally satisfactory.
