A field experiment was conducted at BAU, Mymensingh, during June to December 2006 to find out the optimum dose of mixed fertilizer for profitable rice cultivation in Aman season. Six fertilizer treatments were: Fo = control, Fl = fertilizer at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) recommended dose (i.e. 120, 75.5, 60, 33.75, 5 kg of urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum, and zinc sulphate ha-1 respectively), F2 = mixed fertilizer at 100 kg ha-1, F3 = mixed fertilizer at 200 kg ha-1, F4 = mixed fertilizer at 300 kg ha-1, F5= mixed fertilizer at 400 kg ha-1. Rice variety BRRI dhan32 was used as plant material. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Weed density and biomass increased with the increases of mixed fertilizer doses and Echinochloa crusgalli was the most prominent weed species in the experiment plots. Plant and yield parameters such as plant height, productive and non-productive tillers hill-I, grains and sterile spikelets panicle-1 and grain yield were significantly affected by mixed fertilizer doses. The highest grain yield was obtained from F3 (200 kg ha-1 ) that produced 36.62% and 26.03% higher grain yield than control (Fo) and BRRI recommended fertilizer (F1), respectively. Maximum marginal rate of return with F3 suggested that this fertilizer dose was best for profitable rice cultivation in Aman season.

To find out the optimum dose of mixed fertilizer for profitable rice cultivation in Aman season.

The experiment was carried out at BAU, Mymensingh during the Aman season from June to December 2006. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. BRRI dhan32 was used as rice variety. Six fertilizer levels were included: Fo=no fertilizer (control), Fl =fertilizer at BRRI recommended dose, F2=mixed fertilizer at 50% of recommended dose, F3=mixed fertilizer at recommended dose (200 kg ha-1), F4=mixed fertilizer at 150% of recommended dose and F5=mixed fertilizer at 200% of recommended dose. Bengal MF @ 200 kg ha-1 was used as mixed fertilizer. The constituents of this fertilizer for rice are N (8%), P (20%), K (14%) and S (5%). Fertilizer was applied according to the treatments. BRRI recommended dose (i.e. 120, 75.5, 60, 33.75, 5 kg of urea, triple super phosphate, muriate of potash, gypsum, and zinc sulphate ha-1 respectively) and different doses of mixed fertilizers (Bengal mixed fertilizer @ 200 kg ha-1) were applied at final land preparation. Urea was top-dressed in three equal splits. One third of urea was applied at 15 days after transplanting and the remaining two third were applied in two equal splits at 30 and 45 days after transplanting. Thirty day old seedlings were transplanted in the experimental plots. Three healthy seedlings hill! were transplanted on 30 July 2006 following 25 x 15 cm spacing. Intensive care was taken during the growing period to ensure adequate growth and development of the crop. Two weddings at 22 and 45 days after transplanting (DAT) were done. The data on weed density and dry weight were taken from each plot on 22 and 45 DAT. The weeds were identified species-wise. The data on plant height, effective and non effective tillers, grains panicle-1, 1000-grain weight, grain and straw yield and harvest index were recorded. Grain yield was adjusted at 14% moisture content. Constant straw weight was recorded after repeated sun drying. Collected data were analyzed for analysis of variance following MSTAT and means were compared by DMRT (Gomez and Gomez, 1984). Economic analysis was done to find. out the profitability of using mixed fertilizer considering unit price of fertilizer and paddy. Relative Weed Density (RWD), Importance Value of Weed (IVW), Harvest Index (HI) and Marginal Rate of Return (MRR) were calculated.
