Pathological examination of 173 slaughtered buffaloes revealed some disease conditions in 85 (49.13%) cases. The identified diseases were hepatic fascioliasis (45.88%), hydatidosis (30.59%), paramphistomiasis (16.47%) and cachexia (7.06%). Gross and histopathological lesions of these disease conditions have been described in brief.

To identify various disease conditions among slaughtered buffaloes.

One hundred and seventy three carcases were examined in order to investigate the presence of various disease conditions among slaughtered buffaloes. Each organ was examined pathologially for any detectable gross alterations immediately after slaughter. In positive cases, the lesion containing tissue segments were collected in 10% neutral formol saline. The well fixed tissues were processed and histologic sections were stained with haematoxylin and eosin by routine histopathological technique.

Histological examination of G. explanatum infected liver showed a series of hemorrhages and numerous smaller nodular areas indicating the sites of attachment of flukes in the medium and large sized bile ducts. Besides, the affected livers exhibited moderate to severe fibrosis. The cases of cachexia showed appreciably weak and emaciated carcasses with mucoid atrophy of adipose tissues.
