Major land types recognized were medium highland (17.99%), medium lowland (26.89%), lowland (16.8%), very lowland (18.96%). Major textural classes identified loam (26.31%), clay loam (34.14%) and clay (19.26%). Major soil groups identified Chandina, Debidar, Burichang, Fuldi, Balaganj, Nasirnagar, Fagu, and Titas. Suitable crops were Boro rice, T. & B. Aus rice, T. Aman rice, Deep-water Aman, sugarcane, rabi cotton, rabi maize, wheat, chhola, masur, mustard, rabi soybean, rabi groundnut, potato, rabi vegetables, rabi chilli, tomato, cabbage, cauliflower, bitter gourd, patal, sasa, mango, jackfruit, coconut, betelnut. Major cropping patterns were Boro rice-Fallow (F)-F (34.45%); Boro rice-F-T.Aman rice; Mastard-Boro-F; and Rabi crops-F-T. Aman/B. Aman rice. Fertilizer recommendations for 47 existing and potential crops of the upazila at high and medium yield goals and for 89 crops at high yield goal are given. Soils of this upazila are deficient in N, P, K, S, Zn and B. Water-logging in a considerable area hinders agricultural development. This guide can be used for determining flood, drought, water-logging and soil erosion. Demonstration site selection for technology transfer can be done with the help of this guide. Upazila land and soil resource's carrying capacity can be estimated which would help in determining food deficit or surplus situation.
