Twelve Jackfruit germplasm were evaluated at RARS, Jamalpur during 2011-2012. Maximum numbers of fruits/plant were obtained from AH Jam-10 (69.00) and minimum (12.00) in AH Jam-09. The heaviest fruit was in AH JAM -05 (12.25 kg) and the lightest (3.97 kg) in AH Jam-09. Fruit length and fruit breadth varied from 25.20 cm to 49.00 cm and 18.00 cm to 23.50 cm, respectively. Weight of rind and rachis/fruit varied from 1.93 to 6.05 kg and 233 to 1175 g, respectively. Maximum number and weight of flake/fruit (167 and 5.68 kg, respectively) were obtained from AH Jam-02. Flake length and breadth ranged from 4.94 to 6.88 cm and 2.77 to 4.62 cm, respectively. Maximum seeds/fruit and seed weight/fruit (167 and 1056 g, respectively) was obtained from AH Jam-02. Seed length and breadth varied from 2.72 to 3.67 cm and 1.40 to 2.07 cm respectively. The highest yield/plant (432.00 kg) was observed in AH Jam-02 and the lowest (47.64 kg) from AH Jam-09. Maximum TSS was obtained (25.00 %) from AH JAM -03, while minimum (16.00 %) from AH Jam-11. The highest edible portion (53.33 %) was noted in AH Jam-10, while the lowest (22.97 %) was recorded from AH Jam-01.

To study the performance of collected jackfruit germplasm at  RARS, Jamalpur

Evaluate, characterized and documented the collected germplasm for utilization

To developed  jackfruit variety having higher yield and good quality

The experiment was conducted at the existing jackfruit trees at Jamalpur region during 2011-2012. Twelve jackfruit germplasm were selected for the study viz. AH Jam-01, AH Jam-02, AH Jam-03, AH Jam-04, AH Jam-05, AH Jam-06, AH Jam-07, AH Jam-08, AH Jam-09, AH Jam-10, AH Jam-11 and AH Jam-012 to identify superior jackfruit germplasm. Two-four fruits from each plant were randomly selected for evaluation. Fully mature fruits were harvested from the plant and data on different parameters like age of plant, total number of fruits per plant, date of harvest, weight of fruit, fruit length, fruit breadth, fruit shape, fruit colour, weight of rind, weight of rachis, rind thickness, number of flake per fruit, total flake weight, flake colour, flake or pulp firmness, taste of flake, flake length, flake breadth, total seeds per fruit, seed colour, seed length, seed breadth, seed weight per fruit, stalk attachment, edible portion (%) and TSS (%) were recorded and statistically analyzed.

A wide variability was observed in different parameters such as weight of fruit, number of fruits per tree, size of fruit, shape of fruit, number of bulbs or flakes in a fruit, edible portion and TSS among the germplasm studied. Among the germplasm AH Jam-10 was found superior in respect of numbers of fruits/plant while the germplasm AH Jam-02 found superior in respect of number and weight of flake/fruit, fake size and yield/plant.
