Land and Soil Resources Utilization Guide, Patia Upazila, Chittagong, 2009, SRDI, Dhaka-1215.
110,000
In this upazila, some of the suitable crops identified were T.Aman, T.Aus and Boro rice, sugarcane, pan (betel vine), barbati, bean, bitter gourd, sasa, kakrol, chichinga, sweat goard, aroid, zinger, turmeric, pineapple, banana, papaya, lemon, sapota, guava, karoi, gamar, garjan, chapalish, mehgani, segun, mango, etc. Major cropping patterns were Forest (11.0%), shrub and scrubs (8.9%); and Perennial horticultural crops and spices (3.1%).
Upazila Guide as a micro-level agricultural planning tool delineates existing soil/land and water resource data bases. It helps plan research activities, set location specific crop trials and demonstration and determine site specific suitable crops and cropping patterns, development of surface and subsurface irrigation network, soil and water conservation measures and drainage system improvement. Use of the guide as a vehicle for agro-technology transfer and diffusion will enable the farmers to apply balanced fertilizer applications, use appropriate soil management technologies and thus increase crop production. The guide can also be used as a data base for other local level development plans such as development of community forestry, poultry, watershed management for water conservation and construction of embankment, roads, culverts and bridges.
